Ronnie McGinn's Poetry Page

If you have a poem you'd like to see published in The Irish Examiner then send it to:

The Poetry Corner
The Irish Examiner USA
1040 Jackson Avenue, Third Floor
Long Island City
NY 11101

or, preferably, you can email it direct to
ronniemcginn@eircom.net.

If possible keep your poem to 20 lines. You may choose any subject you like, in any form you like as long as it's original. We look forward to hearing from you.

Some time ago we had a poem from Joseph Thomas McCausland, who is yet another Irishman with a passion for writing.

He sent us a poem about living the 'NYC Rat Race' called "A Longing for a Simpler Time." The poem made quite an impression on many of our readers. So this week we have another of his poems.

In this poem Joseph tells us of his dismay about all of the great writers who have left us over the years; it is called Celestial Quills.

Joseph is 43 years old and works as a Property Manager for a high rise building in New York City.

He's been married to Laura for 23 years and they have three sons, Douglas, Brandon and Collin.

They live in Montgomery, NY and sing for a classic Rock cover band on weekends.

He has been writing poetry since he was a teenager and really love the way words can massage the brain when in the right order.

He has many cousins in Ireland.

CELESTIAL QUILLS

Decades gone
luminous fog envelops thy bed
writhing stoneside, seeking your company
these honored ghosts, do they twist and sing
feeding fires and conjuring worlds
sans the fingers with blessed ink

You danced euphoric, driven by passion
Gift wrapped words and adorned with ribbon
for all those who dream
and cared for a listen
scriptural language lays in wait
at bookshelf heights, center of town
epiphany after the lights go down

I lay awake and often dwell
upon the pages that oceans swell
saddened often the greats have died
but joyous still
that they are all ALIVE
