One of the pleasures arising from reading poetry is that it gives the reader scope contemplating the expression of one mood by one poet, another by another.
There is no form of art or expression which gives wider range to our thoughts and feelings.
With St Patrick's Day already dawning on our horizon, this week's poem by Cora Reidy creates a beautiful Yeatian style image of our Emerald isle, it is a poem that tickles the corners of our imagination, and one could almost visualize a Quite Man watching. Thank you Cora!
Our Land
Ireland oh so lovely land,
Sunny summers, nice soft rain
Little snow showers in the winter
Now and then of course a gale!
Beaches firm and sandy, golden borders
round her shores
Children playing young girls chatting
Old men sitting, some boys fishing.
In regal grandeur mountains rise
Dressed up in purple heather.
Streams cascading, flashing silver
Landscapes changing with the weather
Church spires pointing up towards Heaven
In each town and village too
Flower-filled gardens deck the houses
front doors painted every hue
Moonlight sparkles on the rivers
As the day comes to a close
In each pub there's warmth and whiskey
Dark stout too for him who knows
Music playing couples swaying
On the dance floor cheek to cheek
Violins sometime go for jig-time
Siege of Ennis then a reel
Smiling faces happy people
Ready with a helping hand
Full of wit, chat song and poetry
That's Our land; Ireland.
