Big Sounds, Short Films: Mark Geary And The Best Of Irish Shorts At The Wee Craic

The night starts with a special performance by Mark Geary

Fans, friends and followers of The Craic Festival don't have to wait until March to get their fix of the best of Irish short films and music, as the Wee Craic returns on Friday September 9th to the Tribeca Cinema & Lounge at 54 Varick Street.

This year marks the twelfth annual Wee Craic, presented by Tullamore Dew Whiskey.

It's a one night event which (like its 'big brother'' The Craic Festival, taking place every year around St Patrick's Day) brings some of the hottest Irish and Celtic film and music to the tri-state area.

"The Wee Craic is a great platform to show some of the amazing filmmaking talent that's coming out of Ireland at the moment, and show films that mightn't necessarily reach audiences at this side of the Atlantic otherwise," says Festival Director Terence Mulligan.

"And it's also just a great opportunity for people to get together and enjoy a good night out, to bring the film fans and music lovers together under one roof!"

The night starts with a special performance by Mark Geary.

Music at the Wee Craic has always focused on solo performances to make the event more intimate, and this year will be no exception.

Geary will treat audiences to this special gig in the screening room before the films start rolling.

He's on familiar turf here in New York City before embarking on a European tour later in the month.

Expect to hear hits from his albums 'Opium', 'Ghosts' and '33 1/3 Grand Street', and new tracks from his hotly anticipated upcoming album.

The Wee Craic has in the past drawn performers such as Colin Devlin (the Devlins), Mundy, and Laura Izibor. (Geary himself is back to the Festival by popular demand.)

Right after Geary's performance will be a screening selected from the hits, audiences favorites, and winners at festivals such as the Galway Film Fleadh, Tribeca Film Festival and Sundance.

The Wee Craic takes place on Friday September 9th at 7:00pm at the Tribeca Cinema & Lounge at 54 Varick Street. Doors at 6:30pm.
Advance tickets are $20 and are available online on Ticketweb.com.

Films included must be Irish in theme, have been shot in Ireland, feature Irish talent either behind or in front of the camera, or have been made here in NYC by local Irish filmmakers, such as the Oscar short-listed Shoe, and Cork Film Festival's winner of the Best Irish Short Film award, Pentecost.

As if an evening's top class film and live music wasn't enough, this year as always the Wee Craic promises good times at the after party (Guest DJ) which takes place at the Tribeca Cinema Lounge.

An open bar sponsored by Tullamore Dew whiskey and Stella Artois will kick off at 8:30pm.

So bring along some friends, make some new ones, open your eyes to some of Ireland's best short film, and enjoy music and drinks afterwards.

It's all part of the Craic.
