Ronnie McGinn's Poetry Page

If you have a poem you'd like to see published in The Irish Examiner then send it to:

The Poetry Corner
The Irish Examiner USA
1040 Jackson Avenue, Third Floor
Long Island City
NY 11101

or, preferably, you can email it direct to
ronniemcginn@eircom.net.

If possible keep your poem to 20 lines. You may choose any subject you like, in any form you like as long as it's original. We look forward to hearing from you.

Samantha Doyle is a member of the Douglas Junior Writers. For a young girl who is not yet a teenager Samantha has a very promising amount of talent.

She has already amazed many of her contemporaries and even more adults by writing a book called "Fantasy Island" a surreal tale about a secret island, where famous people go to get away from it all.

The book makes amusing and fascinating reading and let's hope it gets published sometime in the near future.

This week's poem from Samantha is a true story that is much more than words printed on a page.

It's uncontrived innocence and straightforward simplicity will capture even the most disinterested reader. Well done Samanatha!

My Dog Dot

My dog Dot
Has a favourite spot
Down at the end of the garden
When people come near
She'll prick up her ears,
And bark at them quite a lot.

Oh Dot, Oh Dot
Will you get off your spot?
And come and play with me
Football, chasing or Frisbee
We could even have some teal!

But Dot is still sitting on her spot
Not doing an awful lot
l bend down to rub her head
And realise that she's dead.

Oh Dot, Oh Dot
l miss You a lot ,
We'll bury you on your favourite spot
Down at the end of the garden
