If possible keep your poem to 20 lines. You may choose any subject you like, in any form you like as long as it's original. We look forward to hearing from you.

Our poem this week was sent to us by Jason Parks who originates from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Jason has never been to Ireland but he plans to visit there soon as he has a strong affinity for Irish writing and also his grandmother is originally from Cork and she moved to Canada inthe 1950s.

It's a long ways from Canada, to the Middle-Eastern City of Doha in Qatar where Jason currently resides.

He tells us that Doha is a wonderful city in many ways but it is very different from his home town in Canada, and also it is sometimes difficult being so far away from family and friends. This poem is a lighthearted take on the life of an expat.

Things We Need in Doha

They need to make a remote-
controlled baby stroller
as well as a monorail from
here
to my house in Canada
and also a zip-line
between the Harp bar in the basement of the Sheraton
and my villa
I'd make it home much more often that way
we could also use moving
sidewalks
or sidewalks of any kind
because they are few
and far between in this city
I would also not object
to teleporters,
magic carpets,
or docile camels
requiring no maintenance
and having the capability
of turning the flat desert wastes around them
into lush
green hills and
river
valleys
