When the burden of our modern world becomes ".....full of care?" along comes Frank E. Lee to remind us there are more important things in life than banks.
Frank is a prominent member of the Douglas Writers Group in Cork, Ireland, and is best know for his inspiring short stories and honest opinions.
Frank's humorous poem entwines itself between the symbolic parallels of life and materialism, the image and rhythm of his poem strikes a note on everyone's piano, by its very simplicity the poem is overpowering and must stand as an inspiring though provoker to us all. Nice one Frank!
Some more of Frank's work is included in the forthcoming combined Writer Groups Anthology "The Writers Hand" which will be available shortly.
Never Been This Old Before
These past few months I've slowed down
My old bones ache, my feet are sore
Now I seldom even walk to town -
For I've never been this old before
The boy on the bus gave me his seat
A young girl held open a bank door -
To be honest I was feeling down beat
As I've never been this old before
There's no smoking in the public house
One cannot even partake of a jar -
So I move around like a dazed mouse
Trying to find where I parked the car!
Police on the beat now seem so young -
While my best friend's becoming a bore
Most times I simply hold my tongue -
'Cause I've never been this old before!
At times when I look in a mirror
I see an unfamiliar face gazing at me -
So I shake my self up with a shiver
Wondering who the old codger could be!
