Celtic Secure Champions League Spot At Tannadice

While Ranger's victory over Hibs on Sunday morning secured them the Championship in Scotland, Celtic's 2-0 victory against Dundee United at Tannadice has assured them Champions League football for next season.

Dundee made a solid start getting a couple of good chances to take the lead in the early minutes, but it was Celtic who handled the wet field and frantic pace the better.

Kamara scored the Bhoys' first with a left-footed shot into the top corner of the goal. Celtic fans had to wait until four minutes into extra time when Dundee's goalkepper Dusan Pernis fouled McGeady and gave up a penalty.

Robbie Keane stepped up, made no mistake and sent the team back into Europe next year.

Goal-scorer Diomansy Kamara, on loan from Fulham, was pleased at the result saying, "The target was to get to the final of the Scottish Cup but we lost the semi-final.

"The target then was to qualify for the Champions League and we have."

"We won't win a trophy this season but I think we have a good squad," said the Senegalese international.

"I think the performance against United was terrific. We played well against a good team, beat them and left them 10 points behind.

"So we have qualified for the Champions League and that is the most important thing."

In news from this side of the Pond, reports surfaced at the end of last week that an Old Firm derby was being eyed for the Boston Red Sox' Fenway Park.

Both Celtic and Rangers are coming to the USA in summer for tours and the Chief Operating Officer of the Red Sox Sam Kennedy is said to be in talks with Creative Artists Agency to play the game at Fenway.

"We're aggressively pursuing the match," he said.

"We recognize it's a very special match between two very historic teams and the thought is that a very historic venue like Fenway Park would be appropriate to host that rivalry.

"We're hopeful that we can make it a reality.

"We've had lots of great rivalries with the Red Sox and the New York Yankees, we've had the Philadelphia Flyers and the Boston Bruins play an NHL game here this winter and a great college rivalry between Boston University and Boston College.

"So, the concept of a great rivalry in a sport that's not normally played at Fenway is attractive to us."
