Abtran To Create 300 Jobs In Cork With 3.5 Million Euro Investment

Irish business process outsourcing firm Abtran is to create 300 high-value jobs over the next three years in Cork as part of a €3.5 million investment in research and development.

The landmark investment is supported by Enterprise Ireland.

The 300 new jobs will be in management, business administration, finance, resource planning, information technology, and human resources.

Further jobs will be created in providing finance, administration, sales and customer service support for Abtran's clients.

The new jobs will be based in Abtran's offices in Curraheen Road and Model Farm Road in Cork.

Abtran, which employs 1,000 workers, is the largest Irish company providing clients with business process services from finance and administration to sales and customer service.

The move follows a €6 million Enterprise Ireland-backed investment announced by the Taoiseach last year which created over 250 jobs in Abtran's Learning and Innovation Centre.

The investment plan announced by Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Innovation Bat O'Keeffe T.D., on Monday will enable Abtran to further enhance its expertise in business process development, allowing the company to innovate and target emerging market opportunities.

Abtran will use the new processes, knowledge and expertise to position Ireland as a centre of excellence in the €300 billion global business processes industry.

Announcing the 300 new jobs in Cork, Minister O'Keeffe described the move as a "significant research and development investment which is well-aligned with the Government's vision for the "smart" economy.

"Abtran's growth is firmly founded on its strategic business approach which is underlined by the new Learning and Innovation Centre and the recently announced research partnership with the Cork Constraint Computation Centre (4C) in University College Cork.

"Companies such as Abtran are at the forefront of innovation, creating jobs and the products and services of tomorrow by opening new markets and driving our export sales footprint across the globe," he continued.

The Managing Director of Abtran, Michael Fitzgerald, said: "By focusing on research and development, we have enhanced our capacity to innovate with smarter and more efficient services and this has been a key driver in our growth to date.

"We have established a network of business, academic, commercial and public sector interests to create banks of expertise around service delivery to customers and citizens.

"Practically, this means better services, reduced costs and overall value for money for our clients.

"By investing further in research and development and innovation, we will continue to increase our competitiveness and this will fuel our further growth."

The chief executive of Enterprise Ireland, Frank Ryan, said: "Enterprise Ireland's strategy is to promote the development of innovative world-class Irish companies and help them grow to achieve strong positions in global markets.

"Abtran is a prime example of such a company, focused on driving future growth through investment and research and development.

"This ambitious research and development project is the next significant step in the evolution of Abtran and towards its goal of becoming a world-leader in business process outsourcing.

"Enterprise Ireland is delighted to support Abtran's continuing investment in research and development to build its customer offering and give further impetus to its ongoing scaling strategy," he concluded.
