Robbie Keane scored his ninth goal for Celtic from the penalty spot in Saturday's 3-0 victory over St. Johnstone at Parkhead.
The victory brings the Bhoys back within 10 points of Rangers, though their rivals have a game in hand.
Tony Mowbray made several changes to the squad, leaving Boruc, who'd returned from compassionate leave, on the bench and Mark Wilson taking Hinkel's spot at right-back.
Scott Brown was serving his suspension too, with Paul McGowen stepping in for his first start of the season. Fortune also got a start, replacing Morten Rasmussen.
In the 15th minute, Celtic got their first real chance after St. Johnstone's Kenny Deuchar was injured and replaced by Steven Reynolds.
Within a minute of the change, Edson Braafheid sent in a free-kick from the right which was met by the head of Thompson, who diverted it into the net from eight yards out.
Keane was next on the scorecard after Smith brought down Fortune in the box in the 66th minute. Keane stepped in to take the spot kick and buried it in the top corner.
Samaras capped off a fine result in the 87th minute, defeating two defenders and slipping the ball under the keeper.
Celtic have announced that they will be erecting a statue outside Parkhead honoring former Celtic, Leeds and Scotland manager Jock Stein.
Stein, who was Celtic's boss from 1965 to 1978 was the first manager of a British club to win the European Cup, beating Inter Milan 2-1 in Lisbon.
Commenting on the decision, Chairman John Reid said, "2010 marks the 25th anniversary of Jock's passing. In this year, there will be great sadness as we remember the tragic events in Cardiff.
"Jock will forever be truly remembered as one of the world's football greats.
"He was a man of immense stature and someone who gave so much to Scottish football."
