Dons Down Hearts
Several Scottish Premier League clubs were idle as the severe weather bit deep into the weekend, but Aberdeen booked their place in the fifth round of the Scottish Cup thanks to a 2-0 victory over Hearts in the all-Scottish Premier League tie at Pittodrie on Saturday afternoon.
Darren Mackie opened the scoring on the hour mark with his first goal of the season and fellow striker Lee Miller made the game safe with a second in 76 minutes.
Hibernian had to work hard as they eased past Irvine Meadow 3-0 at Easter Road. The Junior outfit produced a good performance but first-half goals from Derek Riordan and Merouane Zemmama set Hibs on their way and Paul Hanlon rounded things off after the break.
Billy Mehmet bagged a hat-trick as St. Mirren overcame spirited resistance from Alloa to record a 3-1 home win. Mehmet headed the opener via the post and keeper David Crawford and gave Saints an interval lead after Mark Brown had levelled, before completing his treble in the last minute.
Dundee United negotiated a tricky tie at Firhill, beating First Division Partick Thistle 2-0. Damian Casalinuovo netted a disputed opener midway through the first half and a spectacular effort from substitute David Goodwillie sealed victory in the 90th-minute.
Holders Rangers were held to a 3-3 draw by Hamilton in a rollercoaster tie at New Douglas Park on Sunday afternoon.
Walter Smith's men, winners in 2008 and 2009, took an early lead through Steven Whittaker and looked in command when Kenny Miller added a second goal on the half hour.
But in an incredible spell late in the first half, Simon Mensing pulled one back from the spot and Marco Paixao and Mickael Antoine-Curier struck to give Hamilton a 3-2 half-time advantage.
Miller's second-half penalty squared the tie but Rangers couldn't find a winner, even after Richard Hastings had been sent off with nine minutes left, and an Ibrox replay looms.
The draw for the Fifth Round of the Scottish Cup went ahead as planned on Sunday with three all-SPL ties possible, depending on the results of replays and the rescheduled games from the weekend.
St. Mirren will host the current Scottish Cup holders Rangers or the Accies, who face off again next Tuesday at Ibrox. Kilmarnock or Falkirk will face Inverness CT or Motherwell and Dundee United can expect a trip to either St. Johnstone or Forfar.
The full draw for the Fifth Round is:
Dunfermline v. Morton or Celtic
Forfar or St. Johnstone v. Dundee United
Hibernian v. Edinburgh City or Montrose
Livingston or Dundee v. Ayr United or Brechin City
Raith Rovers or Airdrie United v. Aberdeen
Kilmarnock or Falkirk v. Inverness CT or Motherwell
St. Mirren v. Hamilton or Rangers
Ross County or Inverurie Loco Works v. Albion Rovers or Stirling Albion
All games will be played on either Saturday February 6th or Sunday February 7th.
