Leeds Boot Manchester United Out Of The Cup!

Manchester United crashed out of the FA Cup in the shock result of the third round.

The Premier League champions suffered a surprise 0-1 home defeat against League One leaders Leeds United.

Jermaine Beckford got the only goal of the match with his 20th strike of the season to give the Yorkshire side their first win at Old Trafford since 1981.

On his team's first encounter with their Roses rivals for almost six years, the Leeds striker got on the end of Jonathan Howson's long ball and prodded the visitors ahead after 19 minutes.

His first touch appeared heavy but the striker reacted well to force home from a tight angle.

It was a well deserved victory for the underdogs who also hit the angle of left post and bar late on with a long-range free-kick by Robert Snodgrass while Beckford was inches wide on a run through.

United staged a late rally with Michael Owen and Wayne Rooney having good chances but the Red Devils were unable to prevent their first exit at this stage of the competition and their first  FA Cup defeat to lower league opposition since 1984 when Ron Atkinson's side were beaten at Bournemouth.

There was no such slip-up from FA Cup holders Chelsea who thumped Watford 5-0 at Stamford Bridge to cruise into the fourth round.

The Premier League leaders were ahead in the fourth minute when Daniel Sturridge scored his first goal for the club from close range.

An own goal from John Eustace increased Chelsea's lead and in the 21st minute Florent Malouda deflected in a Yuri Zhirkov shot to give the Blues a handsome interval lead.

Chelsea made it 4-0 in the 64th minute with a superb Frank Lampard strike. The England midfielder was given time and space some 25-yards out and sent a thunderous rising drive into the roof of the net.

Four minutes later it was 5-0 after Ashley Cole and Zhirkov combined superbly on the left wing.

Cole's run into the penalty was followed by a clever cross to the waiting Sturridge who controlled the ball and slipped it beyond the helpless Scott Loach.

Arsenal came from behind to beat West Ham United 2-1 at the Boleyn Ground.

Alessandro Diamanti ran through to fire the Hammers in front on the stroke of half-time and with goalkeeper Robert Green making some fine saves, they looked as though they might hang on.

But Aaron Ramsey levelled with a fine angled finish 12 minutes from time and Eduardo headed the winner five minutes later.

Wolverhampton Wanderers came through a tricky tie winning 1-0 at Tranmere Rovers.

Matt Jarvis scored the only goal of the match 13 minutes from time, firing home right-footed from 18 yards after being set up by Nenad Milijas.

On Saturday, goals from Nathan Delfouneso, Carlos Cuellar and John Carew earned Aston Villa a place in the fourth round of the FA Cup with a 3-1 win against 10-man Blackburn Rovers.

Delfouneso struck his first goal of the campaign and Cuellar added a second before Rovers saw David Dunn's spot-kick saved by Brad Guzan and then had El Hadji Diouf sent off for a lunging challenge on Habib Beye.

But Sam Allardyce's side overcame their numerical disadvantage to reduce the arrears through Nikola Kalinic after a Guzan error before Carew settled the issue with a late penalty.

Bolton Wanderers regained that winning mentality in the wake of Gary Megson's sacking and claimed a place in the next round of the FA Cup in the process.

They stepped up the pace in the second half to overcome the challenge of League Two Lincoln City to win 4-0.

An own goal from Moses Swaibu paved the way with Chung-Yong Lee, Gary Cahill and substitute Mark Davies also finding the target.

Two late Everton goals saved the Premier League side's blushes and broke the hearts of a brave Carlisle United side to win 3-1.

Last season's beaten finalists were pushed all the way by the battling League One side for the majority of the match, only regaining the advantage eight minutes from time.

James Vaughan had put Everton ahead early on, but Kevan Hurst scuffed home an equaliser in the opening period. From then on the Cumbrians fought grimly for a replay, until Tim Cahill's fourth goal of the season and an injury-time Leighton Baines penalty settled the issue.

Bobby Zamora did his chances of an England call-up no harm as he fired Fulham into the fourth round with  a 1-0 victory over over Swindon Town.

Zamora coolly lifted the ball over David Lucas to score the winner after 16 minutes, his fourth goal in five matches.

Benjani Mwaruwari fired the Premier League's Manchester City through to the fourth round with a 1-0 triumph over Middlesbrough.

The striker converted Martin Petrov's through-ball on the stroke of half-time to claim victory in a tight match.

Substitute Carlos Tevez had two good chances to extend a much-changed City's lead, although Boro battled all the way to the whistle, if ultimately in vain.

Burnley booked their place in the fourth round with a 2-1 win at League One side MK Dons.

First-half goals from captain Graham Alexander and Steven Fletcher put the Premier League side on course for only a second away win of the season and Coyle also saw his side hit the woodwork twice after the break before Dean Morgan struck late on for the Dons.

Birmingham City and Nottingham Forest kept their unbeaten records after the country's two in-form sides could not be separated in this 0-0 draw.

Forest, on a 16-match run without defeat in the Championship, created the better chances and would have beaten Premier League opposition at this stage for the second successive season had Robert Earnshaw not put a 62nd-minute penalty over the crossbar.

Birmingham arrived at the City Ground on the back of a club record 11-match unbeaten streak in the top flight. Their best chance fell to Kevin Phillips who was denied by Lee Camp when one-on-one with the Forest keeper midway through the second half.

Coventry City held Portsmouth to a 1-1 draw at Fratton Park to set up a richly-deserved FA Cup third-round replay.

The Sky Blues went ahead against the run of play after half an hour thanks to a brilliant 20-yard effort from David Bell.

Kevin-Prince Boateng nodded a leveller for the Premier League side in first-half stoppage time, but the 2008 FA Cup winners were unable to finish off Chris Coleman's side.

Fraizer Campbell struck his first goals for three months to head Sunderland into the FA Cup fourth round at the expense of brave non-leaguers Barrow with a 3-0 win.

The Blue Square Premier side had put the wind up Steve Bruce's men in a storming start which saw Phil Bolland, Paul Bond and Marc Goodfellow all come close.

But Steed Malbranque's 17th-minute opener set the home side on their way in freezing conditions and Campbell's brace early in the second period saw the Premier League side home.

Tottenham Hotspur eased into the fourth round with a 4-0 victory over Championship strugglers Peterborough United at White Hart Lane.

A brace from Croatian midfielder Niko Kranjcar put Harry Redknapp's men in control with a goal in each half.

The result was put beyond any doubt as Spurs strike pairing Jermain Defoe and Robbie Keane added a goal apiece in the final 20 minutes.

Two-goal substitute Charles N'Zogbia sparked a second-half fightback against Hull City to fire Wigan Athletic into the fourth round after a 4-1 win.

Hull had led through a Geovanni free-kick but N'Zogbia's entry proved inspired as he quickly struck twice and set up another for James McCarthy.

Scott Sinclair then wrapped up victory by capping a fine performance with an excellent individual effort in the last minute.

Stoke City survived an early scare against York City before completing a comfortable 3-1 victory at the Britannia Stadium.

After a 30-minute delay to kick-off due to the visitors' coach being held up in bad weather, the Potters were shocked by their Blue Square Conference opponents when Neil Barrett gave York a deserved lead 20 minutes into the match.

For a moment, a monumental upset appeared to be on the cards, but within three minutes, Stoke had the advantage thanks chiefly to the long throw of Rory Delap.

Danny Parslow deflected one of Delap's deliveries past his own goalkeeper to draw the match level and seconds later Ricardo Fuller put Stoke in front after Leon Cort teed him up from another Delap assist.

Matthew Etherington completed the scoring with a neatly executed free-kick in the second half to ensure Stoke did not fall victim to a famous giant-killing.

Steven Gerrard rescued Liverpool again with an equaliser at the Madejski Stadium to earn an FA Cup third-round replay against Reading following a 1-1 draw.

The Liverpool skipper produced a goal when his side needed it most, as he does so often, meaning the two clubs will meet again at Anfield.

Simon Church had bundled in an opener to give the hosts the scent of an upset but Gerrard levelled before the break for Rafael Benitez's men.
