The Immoral Agenda Of A Liberal Congress

Ever since I became a lector at my church, I have been paying more attention to the readings and I am constantly surprised at how Christ's message has been distorted by those who use his words to support their liberal agenda.

Some people in government have a very strange sense of morality. They think that stealing from the wealthy to give to the poor is somehow a good thing to do. It is actually highly immoral because not only is it theft pure and simple but it also punishes achievement, rewards imprudence, strips ambition, and creates dependency. Too bad this ideology is held by those who are irreligious yet use religious guilt to sell their agenda.

They are certainly not familiar with the parables of Jesus Christ in the New Testament yet they are always exhorting others with the Christian ideal of caring for the needy. Christ did say, "Whatsoever you do for the least of my brethren, that you do unto me." However, Christ did not say, "Whatever Caesar takes from you and gives to others is a good thing." The point is that we as individuals may have a responsibility to be our brother's keeper. Having the government force us to be generous in no way removes our personal responsibility, but its redistribution of wealth via taxation is nothing but an obscene hijacking of an individual's right to the pursuit of happiness as prescribed in the Declaration of Independence.

Ever since I became a lector at my church, I have been paying more attention to the readings and I am constantly surprised at how Christ's message has been distorted by those who use his words to support their liberal agenda. Christ was neither a vegetarian nor a pacifist. Some might also glean from His parables that He didn't condemn capitalism.

How do the secular liberals explain the following Biblical quotations?

Matthew 20:1-16
The landowner defends his actions to a worker who complained about his generosity to later hired workers:
"Did you not agree with me for one denarius? Take what is yours and go. For it is my fixed intention to give to this last one as I have given to you. Am I not permitted to do what I wish with the things that belong to me?"

Matthew 24:6-8
"You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come.... All these are the beginning of birth pains."

Matthew 10:34-36
"Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword."

Luke 24:41-43
"Jesus said unto them, Have ye here any meat? And they gave Him a piece of broiled fish.... And He took it, and did eat before them."

Sorry, PETA, but we also remember the prodigal son getting the fatted calf and the Passover lamb getting slaughtered on Holy Thursday.

As for the hysteria of global warming, that too is an issue that's been hijacked by the far left. I know that Al Gore flunked divinity school but surely he must have done some Bible reading. In the Book of Job, the Lord reminds him that He's in charge of the sea's rising, not our carbon emissions:

Job 38:1-8-11
"The Lord addressed Job out of the storm and said: Who shut with doors the sea, when it burst forth from the womb; when I made the clouds its garment and thick darkness its swaddling bands?
"When I set limits for it and fastened the bar of its door and said: Thus far shall you come but no farther, and here shall your proud waves be stilled!"

President Obama is losing the debate on universal health care because voters are actually reading the bill that he's trying to impose on them. That's why he's switched to stirring up emotion by pointing out our "moral obligation." Michael Moore did the same thing with the sob stories in his flat-out lying health-care documentary, "Sicko."

That film praised Cuba's health care system, one that is certainly not available to the average poor Cuban. Now, thanks to the Drudge Report, we hear that Cuba has yet another shortage. As the Associated Press reported: "Cuba, in the grip of a serious economic crisis, is running short of toilet paper and may not get sufficient supplies until the end of the year, officials with state-run companies said...."

President Obama will do what he has done throughout his entire political career: be a community organizer. I have observed the main difference between his type of organizing and the tea party and grass roots protesters showing up at the health-care town hall meetings. The left wing media will point out that the difference is one of race because Mr. Obama's supporters are disproportionately black or Hispanic.

However, the truth is far more unsettling. Liberal supporters are paid to show up and demonstrate. They appear in groups and arrive in vans and buses carrying manufactured signs, unlike the anti-Obamacare protesters who come to events on their own and are certainly not paid to do so.

As I have written before, liberals recruit and pay well for advocates to promote their specific agenda, whether it is health care "reform," gay rights or the environment. Just put the word "Obama" in the jobs section of Craigslist.org and you'll be linked to the sites of so-called nonprofits that pay handsomely.

Is this where the stimulus money is going? Why does the health bill H.R. 3200 have a provision that will let organizations like ACORN (which has 16 pending federal indictments for corruption) receive millions of dollars? Under the "Creating Healthier Communities" provision of the bill (found on page 382), grants could be awarded to groups that are members of a "national network of community-based organizations."

The members of the House and the Senate may believe it's moral to emulate the legendary Robin Hood by taking from the rich to give to the poor. The truth is that he simply took back the money that was taken from the poor in the first place and returned it to them.

Sounds like he could have been a Republican. Alicia Colon resides in New York and is a columnist for nysun.com. Her web site is aliciacolon.com
