Annual Manufacturing Prices Up 0.1% In June

Monthly factory gate prices decreased by 0.2% in June 2009. This compares to an increase of 0.9% recorded for June 2008. As a result, the annual percentage change showed an increase of 0.1% in June 2009, compared with an increase of 1.3% in May 2009.

In the month, the price index for export sales decreased by 0.4% while the index for home sales increased by 0.1%. In the year there was an increase in the price index for export sales of 0.4% (this can be influenced by currency fluctuations) and a decrease of 0.8% in respect of the price index for home sales.

In the month the most significant changes were decreases in Pharmaceuticals and other chemical products (incl. man-made fibres) (-0.8%), Basic chemicals (-0.7%), and Office machinery and computers (-0.7%).

Contributing to the annual change were increases in Pharmaceuticals and other chemical products (incl. man-made fibres) (+6.5%), Office machinery and computers (+6.1%), and Other food products including bread and confectionery (+4.9%), while there were decreases in Dairy products (-7.5%), Meat and meat products (-5.9%), and Basic chemicals (-4.5%).

The yearly price index for Mining and quarrying decreased by 5.6% while there was a monthly increase of 1.1%.
