Ronnie McGinn's Poetry Page

If you have a poem you'd like to see published in The Irish Examiner then send it to:

The Poetry Corner
The Irish Examiner USA
1040 Jackson Avenue, Third Floor
Long Island City
NY 11101

or, preferably, you can email it direct to
ronniemcginn@eircom.net.

If possible keep your poem to 20 lines. You may choose any subject you like, in any form you like as long as it's original. We look forward to hearing from you.

'Welcome to the World' by Dee Fitzpatrick, was written following the birth of little Layla, her youngest sister Lynn's daughter with her husband Neville.

Dee has been writing pieces for some time, but something, perhaps shyness, prevented her from showing them to anyone.

Then, the birth of little Layla several weeks ago inspired Dee to put a few lines together.

Her older brother Mike, who lives in New York, (although most of the family are based in Lucan, County Dublin) sent us her poem, which he'd love to see in print as it would give Dee such a boost that it might encourage her to have some more of her poems published.

Welcome to the World

Welcome to the world dear bundle of joy
Your eyes a wonder.
With ever so much love for you.
In your cot you sleep soundly.
When you awaken
You're picked up and cuddled
Cute face all aglow.
A favourite toy beside you.
You gurgle and coo, play peek a boo,
Hugs and kisses for you.
As you lie in your crib.
Family pull funny faces.
Know you're adored.
Our new little person.
Our hearts fill with joy.
As you take your first steps.
You're a tiny treasure.
Getting spoiled by your loved ones.
Who read and tell stories.
Teaching wondrous things.
Love grows and grows.
So let us celebrate.
Join in the fun.
Cos we love you so.
