Out & About

Did you notice? There seemed to be some very shady characters Out & About during the Parade two weeks ago (Dominic M. Kiernan)

Last Friday we visited The French Quarters Guest Apartments (at 346 West 46th Street between 8th and 9th Avenues) to review the apartments and, let me tell you, it blew my mind how beautiful they looked.

In last week's Out & About I spoke about this new undertaking that these Irish Businessmen were beginning, now I am going to ramp it up by saying congratulations to them for what they have done - they've done a fantastic job in the creation of  this guest accommodation.

The apartments must have one of the most reasonable Daily and/or Weekly rates in New York which makes them even more special considering that all the accommodations are newly constructed with custom-designed furniture, luxury linens and each unit featuring its own kitchenette.

The French Quarters are just off Times Square and in the heart of the New York Theater District, and the apartments are located on a tree-lined block.

To secure a confirmed booking, call (212) 359-6652 or check out their website at www.frenchquartersny.com.

Well the great Johnny Logan was in town on Monday night playing to a packed audience at The Galway Hooker.

Everyone seemed to be having a ball and all the girls were screaming for more and more... I even thought it was me they were screaming for as I was overlooking the stage, but no it was Johnny himself.

I am so sure that he will be back again as he put on an unbelievable show. Even Justin Slattery, one of the owner's of Slatttery's  Midtown Pub was in with the staff - Eric Gonazles, head chef, Elizabeth Twomey, Michelle Salmon.

Slattery's is across the street from The Galway Hooker on 36th Street (between Madison and Fifth Avenues) and I recommend you should visit if you're looking for a good night out.

Getting back to Justin he was entertaining his staff and I can tell you, boy, they were having a good time and singing along with all the songs.

Who was on the next table? Only Noelle Clancy and her girlfriend having some burgers and soup in the company of Debra Fox (the woman that takes care of us all in the insurance business).

Next to her was the man himself, Tommy Smyth of ESPN fame and his lovely wife Treasa. Tommy was the Emcee for the night.

The staff of The Galway Hooker should be credited for the service that was next to none and they could not have been nicer, as you can see it shows.

Barry Twomey from O'Connor's Fairways Travel was seen with his twin daughters Jennifer and Erica dancing up a storm and next to them were the staff from Eamonn's Bar & Grill staff. I had to ask myself, was anybody working on Monday night since everybody semms to be at The Galway Hooker for the night.

Danny McDonnell of  Ulysses Pearl Street and Stone Street was also having a good time and Sammy O'Connor of Solas (and his new establishment on 34th Street called The Globe) was having some fun enjoying the night with his mother and sisters who had come over from Ireland.

Sammy is doing a Grand Opening this week, all are welcome to come along - you can tell him we sent you.

Talking about new establishments Ronan Downes and his partners have opened  The Dubliner at 45 Stone Street (Hanover Square)  to which I paid a visit on Friday night along with the coffee-man Pete Scalley.

We had a nice meal and the host Ronan could not be nicer. We also had a pint at Bourbon Street Bar and Grille when we visited The French Quarters that is just next door. Bourbon Street always serves the best of Cajun food and again this place was hopping from wall to wall.

We'd also recommend Fiddlesticks Pub & Grill on Greenwich Avenue in Greenwich Village where you get to meet to manager Sam Gates who a very friendly host and makes all who drop in comfortable

You might also just might catch Niamh but as she is always on the move, it's hard to keep up with her. (I saw her for a minute at the Johnny Logan then could not find her!)

Again, and I cannot say this enough, all the folks at The Galway Hooker (Donal Walsh, Anahi Angelone, Niamh Conroy and all the staff) did a great job. Congratulations gang!

See you all next week.
