Annual Production Decreased By 13% In December 2008

On an annual basis production for Manufacturing Industries for December 2008 was 13% lower than in December 2007. The most significant changes were in the Chemicals and Chemical Products (down 20%), Electrical Machinery and Apparatus (down 31.8%) and Food products and Beverages (down 7.5%) sectors.

The seasonally adjusted volume of industrial production for Manufacturing Industries for the three month period October to December 2008 was 5.8% lower than in the preceding three month period.

The "Modern" Sector, comprising a number of high-technology and chemical sectors, showed an annual decrease in production for December 2008 of 12.2% while a decrease of 12.6% was recorded in the "Traditional" Sector.

The seasonally adjusted industrial turnover index for Manufacturing Industries was 0.7% lower in the three month period October to December 2008 when compared with the preceding three month period. On an annual basis turnover was 7.7% lower when compared with December 2007.
