Recession, rising unemployment, doom, gloom and winter blues seem to have become the centrepiece of our everyday lives. Into a world soaked in negativity comes a poem from Liz Williamson of Blackrock, in Cork, Ireland, that focuses on the good things in life and brings to mind that money isn't everything and there are far more important things in life to look forward too.

Summer

Looking forward to the summer
Waiting for the human race
Adorn itself with summer grace.
There's so much to, look forward to.

Looking forward to the trees
Swaying in the summer breeze
To see them lighting up our skies
With the greenness of their eyes.

Looking forward to the wildlife
Emerging from their winter state,
Where some humans hibernate,
There's so much to, look forward to.

Oh! sweet smelling summer pines,
Hot sunny days and thriving vines,
The lovely state of summer minds,
There's so much to, look forward to.

Looking forward to the summer
Sea and sand and skies of blue
Children playing, old and new
There's so much to, look forward to.
