Out & About

I saw Jeff Cleary smooching around town; I wonder what he is up to? Is he getting an early start on campaigning for the next Governor? You never know.

Now that we are all back from the Christmas holidays it's time to get ready for the new year which we should be good for all of us, I hope.

Kicking off the new year will be the McPeake family from Belfast, who are performing at  Connolly's on West 45th Street this Friday (January 9) at 8pm.

This group have been on the folk scene in Ireland for a very long time and should not be missed.

For tickets and reservations  call 212 597-5126.

If you missed Oasis when they played recently at Madison Square Garden, you can catch up with them again by picking up teh new issue of Irish Connections Magazine which features and exclusive interview with them.

It is available on the newsstands on this Friday so make sure you buy it - it's a great read and, if it is sold out, you can subscribe by calling call (212) 490-8061 or online at irishconnectionsmag.com. I promise you will like it.

Anita Daly from Daly Communications has a lot on her plate for the coming year for she is now representing The Elders, The High Kings, Fionnuala Gill, Gaelic Storm, and Finbar Fury and The Furey Family. This lady never stops as you can see.

If you are out in Astoria Queens and near Broadway and Steinway Street call into see a good friend of mine, Dave Cremin at Cronin and Phelins Bar & Grill and I guarantee you he will have you in stitches and by that I mean laughing your heart out as with his jokes and his magic tricks nobody can beat him.

O'Brien's Irish Pub and Restaurant on 46th Street between 6th and 7th Avenue is a place to go for a nice meal and to say hello to Cormick McCormack as this man operates a class establishment and is always there to welcome you in; now that's service.

The reception for the New York St. Patrick's Day Parade Grand Marshal and his Aides will be on Sunday February 22 beginning at 3pm at Anton's (Springfield Boulevard, Queens Village).

This event  is the  only official function on the Parade calender that presents an opportunity to pay tribute to the 2009 Grand Marshal Michael J. Gibbons and his Aides in a family atmosphere.

I can tell you that this is always a great afternoon to enjoy with your family and, with a buffet dinner, open bar and music by the well known Gerry Finlay and the Cara Showband what more do you need.

To reserve your tickets just call (914) 833-8363, but be quick since it is first come, and first paid.

Was it cold on New Year's Eve? I can tell you for sure that it was, as I nearly froze.

For all those who were in Times Square  to see the Waterford Crystal Ball come down, it must have been bitter cold because of the wind blowing on the Avenues.

Great to see  that Tommy Moloney's  Authentic  Irish Breakfast is available in all the finest Irish Restaurants in the Tri-State. Let me tell you, it's the best!

If you don't believe me just try it out for yourself. You can also call for your own home delivery at 1-800-431-6365 or check them out at tommymoloneys.com. You will never taste better!

If you're over in West Chelsea call into Jake's Saloon on 9th Avenue and say hello to Jimmy Glynn and Jimmy Cahill and sit down for a mouth watering meal and a nice  cool pint.

Last week at Jimmy Neary's famous pub we spotted Mayor Bloomberg with Bill and Hillary Clinton after the New Year's Eve Ball drop in Times Square; Bill was having a pint from what we are told.

Now Jimmy must have been happy - another personality seen at Neary's was top columnist Jimmy Breslin's son James who is an up-and-coming personality himself.

This is definitely the 'in spot' after all the Irish events, but keep it quiet.

Seen at the upper East side eatery Stanton's (on east 79th Street and 2nd Avenue) was the former Press Secretary for  Governor Pataki and who would you think was in the midst of this company again? Yes, that's right, that man again, Jeff Cleary

Again don't you just know that something must be brewing as he is all over the place.

Well, we heard that the Consul General of Ireland Niall Burgess is stuck back in Ireland with the flu. Now what are we going to do? Oh yes, we can call on the Deputy Consul General Breandan O'Caollai  to fill in; that he did at the Friendly Sons at the Penn Club on Monday night and a right good job he did too!

See you all again next week.
