A few weeks ago Jack Scannell of Douglas in Cork, Ireland, spent some time in hospital. He was overawed by the dedication and perseverance of the nurses working, at times, under very difficult and stressful conditions and often undeservedly receiving a lot of adverse publicity. Jack was inspired to put pen to paper a write a tribute to the nursing profession.

All Thru the Night
(Dedicated to the nursing profession)

Patients sleeping, all is quiet,
All thru the night.
Nurse on duty ever bright,
All thru the night.
Watch her working silently,
Helping those in every need.
She'll be watching, she'll abide,
All thru the night.

Moon is rising stars are shining,
All thru the night.
Angels watching angels guarding,
All thru the night.
When they fold their wings and rest,
They will watch the babes at rest,
They'll be watching, they'll abide,
All thru the night.

Children sleeping, all is quiet,
All thru the night,
Nurse on duty ever bright,
All thru the night.
Perfumed flowers and the lord,
Go with her from ward to ward,
She'll be watching, she'll abide,
All thru the night.
