Production Up 4.3% In September

On an annual basis production for Manufacturing Industries for September 2008 was 4.3% higher than in September 2007.

The main contributor to the annual increase was the Basic chemicals sector (+42%). The seasonally adjusted volume of industrial production for Manufacturing Industries for the three month period July to September 2008 was 1.5% higher than in the preceding three month period.

The "Modern" Sector, comprising a number of high-technology and chemical sectors, showed an annual increase in production for September 2008 of 9.1% while a decrease of 7.3% was recorded in the "Traditional" Sector.

The seasonally adjusted industrial turnover index for Manufacturing Industries was 0.2% higher in the three month period July to September 2008 when compared with the preceding three month period. On an annual basis turnover was 0.8% lower when compared with September 2007.
