Increased US Investment In Ireland In 2007

Stocks (positions) of direct investment into Ireland reached €131,411 million at the end of 2007 according to a new report by Ireland's Central Statistics Office.

This stock of inward direct investment reflects the Equity Capital & Reinvested Earnings position of €179,745 million.

This was partially offset by other capital outflows (loans advanced by foreign owned enterprises in Ireland to their affiliates abroad) of €48,334 million.

The increase on the end-2006 overall position of €118,824 million was mainly accounted for by North American investment, the level of which more than doubled to €31,349 million.

While the level of investment from European countries decreased to €87,175 million, it still accounted for two-third of the total inward position, with Netherlands (€33,009 million) and Luxembourg (€28,863 million) being the most prominent.
