Congratulations President-Elect Obama

America made a historic choice in the Presidential Elections last Thursday, in the election of Senator Barack Obama as the next President of the United States of America.

This choice sent a strong message to the rest of the world proving the vitality of American democracy and sent a stronger message to minorities in this country that the American Dream is still alive and kicking.

Just forty-eight years after the passage of the The Civil Rights Act of 1964, the landmark legislation that outlawed racial segregation in schools, public places, and employment, and exactly forty years after the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr., a majority of Americans chose an African-American as their President.

This is in itself a very good thing. We hope that it is a sign that the country has moved beyond the issue of race, leaving us to determine the worth of our fellow citizens by their talents and abilities without, as it's said, 'judging a book by its cover'.

President-Elect Obama ran a superb campaign and fully deserved the personal mandate he obtained by virtue of his majorities in both the popular vote and the Electoral College.

We wish President-Elect Obama a smooth and successful transition period before we return to the political back-and-forth of issues and policies.

We also hope that he will prove to be, as he described himself on the campaign trail, a "uniter" and not a "divider".

It is still too early to tell at this date, the appointment of Rahm Emanuel as his future White House Chief of Staff, not decisive proof of either.

We would hope that this appointment indicates that President-Elect Obama realizes that he will have to rein in his own party in their control of Congress, Emanuel being known as an 'enforcer' who'd ably be able to take on this role.

If on the other hand, the appointment indicates that the President-Elect will drive through a far-left agenda and use his Chief of Staff to intimidate the Republican opposition then we will be there every week to highlight the lack of 'change' in Washington.

In the meantime, congratulations again.
