Out & About

The 20th Annual Goal Dinner is being held this  Friday at Cipriani  on Wall Street and, from what I hear, it is sold out. This is one of the top charity events in New York city and the girls behind the event are Martha Hourican and Angela Dean who work so hard to make it the event of the year.

By the time you read our 'Out & About' this week, we will have a new President of the United States of America.

Either Obama or McCain, no matter who wins, God bless us I hope it works out for our future.

Now that's enough on politics for this week as I think the public have had their fill for the last six months or more; now let's get to work and make life a little better for all of us.

Last Friday night was crazy all around town with Halloween festivities  happening on every corner in the Tri-State.

It was so much fun to walk into some of the bars and restaurants in the city and to see who was dressed up as who.

Tracks in Penn Station is always one of the best places to be on Halloween night, if only just to see how their costumes turned out - all the way from the staff, owners and customers, it's just fantastic to see the costumes they put on for a bit of fun; it is great.

Starting when you come in the door, there to greet you is the Green Man, none other than, Michael O'Brien; what a fright I got, I've never seen him looking so good, he should dress like that all the time.

I must have a word with his partners as it's great for business and I'm sure his family would also be very happy.

Way down the bar was Michael's brother Pat dressed as a Roman guard and looking like the real thing with all the women flocking around him. He was just having fun though.

Now where was Bruce? Baby-sitting I assume, good on you Bruce.

As for the staff Liam and John the bartenders were never looking so good: one was Popeye and the other was his wife Olive-Oil, I think.

The whole place was dressed up for the night.

As they are the best at what they always do, they turn up just to have a bit of fun and be happy at what they do.

Down in the village you have one of the best Halloween parades you have ever come across this side of the Atlantic.

The costumes and floats draw thousands from all over and when it's finished everyone heads uptown for places like the Bull McCabe on St. Mark's Place which is always a fun place to be.

It's also where the Cork boys hang out with Jerry Donavan, Frank Campbell and Andrew DeCourcy who also have Ryan's Irish Pub on Second Avenue and, next door, The Thirsty Scholar. You can imagine the fun they had.

Up the road Nevada Smiths  on Third Avenue was packed with all the shapes and sizes you can imagine.

Around the corner on 11th Street you have Webster Hall which had a line all the way around to 12th Street.

Down in the Central Bar on 9th Street Leslie was at her best from what we hear. I wonder what Gills and Jimmy were dressed as? I'd bet bankers... just kidding, they are great friends of mine.

Ulysses on Pearl street  had a great concert last Sunday with the one and only Seamus Kelleher performing and celebrating 40 years in music.

Good on you Seamus keep going, you've got what it takes.

Congratulations again to Jimmy Glynn on your Honor as the Galway Association's Man of the Year.

I heard it was one of the best nights that the association has ever had.

There's another big dinner on Thursday also, and that is The Ireland-US Council's 46th Annual Dinner.

It takes place at the Metropolitan Club on 60th Street and this year is honoring Paddy Kelly, the Chief Executive of Redquartz Developments.

Well as you can see it has been a busy few days for the Irish with a lot more to come; please let us know what is going on so we can give you a mention.

See you all next week
