Chelsea Bounced By Liverpool At The Bridge
Spurs get their first win against Wanderers
Everton 1 Manchester United 1
Everton outmuscled Manchester United to claim an unexpected point thanks to a spirited second-half comeback.
United had dominated the first 45 minutes of the match with a controlled and confident display, to the point that Everton were chasing shadows.
United held a deserved lead through Darren Fletcher at the break, but in the second period Everton stormed back with a physical performance, with Marouane Fellaini heading the equaliser.
Sunderland 2 Newcastle United 1
Sunderland ended their 28-year wait for a home victory over Newcastle United with a 2-1 win at the Stadium of Light.
Kieran Richardson was the hero when, a week after twice being denied with free-kicks at Fulham, he smashed home a stunning winner from a similar position with 15 minutes remaining.
Djibril Cisse had earlier given the home side a 20th-minute lead, although that was cancelled out by Shola Ameobi within 10 minutes.
Ameobi, who had not scored in two years before Monday's draw with Manchester City, might have doubled his tally 13 minutes after the break, but substitute Kenwyne Jones headed just over and Cisse hit the post as the home side threatened to win more comfortably in front of a passionate sell-out crowd of 47,936.
West Bromwich Albion 0 Hull City 3
Hull City produced another stunning performance to claim an unlikely share of the Premier League lead.
The promoted Tigers were second best to West Brom for large parts of a full-blooded encounter at The Hawthorns but hit the hosts with three goals in the second half.
In a blistering 20-minute spell, Hull - earlier indebted to goalkeeper Boaz Myhill and the crossbar for keeping them in the match - snatched victory through Kamil Zayatte, Geovanni and Marlon King.
Hull's fourth successive win put them level with Chelsea and Liverpool at the top of the table and left them in good heart for clashes against the Blues and Manchester United next week.
Blackburn Rovers 1 Middlesbrough 1
Rovers substitute Benni McCarthy's headed equaliser in the third minute of injury time saved a 1-1 draw at home.
Afonso Alves scored the opener in the 74th minute after out-pacing veteran centre-back Andre Ooijer and turning to fire past goalkeeper Paul Robinson.
However, McCarthy rose highest at a late corner to head in at the near post, although the main talking point of the match was Tuncay Sanli's disallowed overhead kick in the first half.
Chelsea 0 Liverpool 1
A first-half goal from Xabi Alonso ended Chelsea's 86-match unbeaten home league record and put Liverpool three points clear at the top of the League.
Alonso struck in the ninth minute when his 20-yard shot deflected off Jose Bosingwa to leave goalkeeper Petr Cech flat-footed.
Chelsea had their moments but Ashley Cole wasted their best chance of the match in 73rd minute by firing wide from eight yards.
Tottenham Hotspur 2 Bolton Wanderers 0
Harry Redknapp took less than 24 hours to deliver a vital victory for Tottenham Hotspur.
Roman Pavlyuchenko and Darren Bent grabbed the goals against Bolton Wanderers at White Hart Lane but all eyes were on Redknapp after his appointment to succeed Juande Ramos as Spurs manager.
They are still bottom of the table but have made up ground with other strugglers and crucially have a morale-boosting first league win of the season, at the ninth attempt.
Wigan Athletic 0 Aston Villa 4
Gabriel Agbonlahorcreated two goals and scored another to keep Aston Villa riding high in the Premier League.
Agbonlahor's pace and skill was too much for Wigan Athletic as he won a controversial first-half penalty which Gareth Barry converted and then stole the show in the second half with a predatory strike and a brilliant assist.
In the 57th minute, the Birmingham-born striker, 22, bundled home a close-range shot and then embarked on a delightful run and inch-perfect cross for substitute John Carew to head home five minutes later.
Substitute Steve Sidwell curled home a superb fourth goal in the last minute as Wigan, who largely dominated the first half, crumbled in the face of Villa's awesome attacking artillery after the restart.
Manchester City 3 Stoke City 0
British record signing Robinho completed his first Manchester City hat-trick to take Stoke City apart at Eastlands.
The £32.5m Brazilian opened his account after just 14 minutes, then added another from Daniel Sturridge's excellent pass just after the re-start.
But he saved the best until last, finishing off a flowing four-pass move 17 minutes from the end with a clinical finish past Thomas Sorensen.
West Ham United 0 Arsenal 2
Emmanuel Adebayor came off the bench to inspire Arsenal to victory over West Ham United at Upton Park.
The Togo international created the breakthrough after 75 minutes when his cross-shot was turned into his own net by West Ham full-back Julien Faubert.
As the Hammers pushed for an injury time equaliser, Adebayor finished off an incisive counter-attack by rounding Robert Green to rifle home the second. West Ham finished the game with 10 men after Carlton Cole was sent off in injury time for a foul on Alexander Song.
