Out & About

DJ and Hugh Carey

I had a great night at the 11th anniversary of Fiddlesticks Bar and Grill in Greenage Village, where I met up with the lady herself Niamh Conway and I can tell you she is a fabulous host.

Fiddlesticks is on Greenwich Avenue in New York's fashionable "village" neighborhood.

It is the best pub in Ireland, that is in New York, and that is saying something.

Des O'Brien the owner of Langan's Broadway Bar & Restaurant on 47th Street is looking for a couple of Irish girls for a special party - now keep it quiet, he does not know that we know, but do give him a call if you're interested...

Our great friend DJ Carey is been honored at the Fourteenth Annual Lou Gehrig Sports Awards Benefit where he will receive the Jacob K. Javitts Lifetime Achievement Award which will be presented by Bob Costas

The other honorees are John McEnroe, Sandy Koufax and Chris Chambliss.

The dinner is been held at the Marriott Marquis, on Broadway at 45th Street on Monday, October 27th, with cocktails in the evening, a silent auction, dinner and the awards.

Last Thursday a special exhibition of work by Joseph Walsh from Cork was held at the American Irish Historical Society on Fifth Avenue.

Keep this date in mind: Wednesday, November 19th because the United Restaurant & Tavern Owners are having their annual dinner dance at Tavern on the Green (Central Park West at 67th Street).

They'll be honoring John Doolan Vice President -Northeast for Heineken USA as their "Industry Man of the Year" and Paddy Reilly, the owner of the Molly Wee Pub, The Coliseum Pub and Restaurant, The Irish Pub and O'Reilly's in Oakdale, Long Island who'll be the recipient of the U.R.T.O. "Man of the Year"Award.

Liam White, the bartender at Track's oyster bar in Penn Station is the Recipient of the "Royal Order of the Apron"Award.

The three award winners well deserve this recognition for all their hard work in the industry.

For more information and tickets call Maureen McLoughlin at (212) 557-5200.  On Tuesday, the New York St. Patrick's Parade Committee announced the 248th Grand Marshal early this year, at the Manhattan Club.

The Grand Marshal for the 248th New York Saint Patrick's Day Parade is Michael Gibbons, President of the Ireland-US Council and they could not have picked a better man as Michael has worked so hard in promoting business relations betwen Ireland and the USA.

See you all next week.
