A Limerick company signed a $500,000 deal last Thursday at an event to promote Irish firms in New York organised by Enterprise Ireland and hosted by Foreign Affairs Minister, Micheál Martin, T.D.
Advanced Manufactoring Control Systems which employs 30 people in Castletroy is to provide truck monitoring equipment to leading US recycling firm, Ryclebank.
Minister Martin said the Irish company is showing that despite the downturn in the American economy there is still a ready market for companies which have developed specialised technology.
"Irish companies have developed a reputation in the United States for providing reliable high tech services which are unrivalled globally. This Limerick company provides groundbreaking high tech monitors which tracks dump trucks in real time and monitors the amount of waste they have collected," he noted.
"The technology improves efficiency and will help Ryclebank to ensure that their fleet is being used in the best possible way, and will help reduce fuel consumption."
Speaking at the Manhattan networking lunch organised by the New York office of Enterprise Ireland Minister Martin said that both Ireland and the US have established firm financial bonds which have benefited both countries and will help them see through the current economic difficulties.
"While the fact that the US is a major investor in Ireland is well known, we must not overlook the fact that with the support of Enterprise Ireland our companies have ensured that we are also a major player in the American economy.
"Irish companies now employ over 80,000 people in the States and Ireland ranks among the 10 largest investors in the States.
"I want to warmly congratulate the team at Advanced Manufacturing Control Systems for breaking into this important market and to wish Austin Ryan and his Limerick team ever success into the future.
"This deal will help secure jobs at home into the future," he concluded.
