Liverpool Defeat United In Derby

Hull City Upsets Newcastle To Enter The Top Four

Liverpool 2 Manchester United 1

In Saturday's early game, substitute Ryan Babel scored in the second half to end United's run of five successive league wins over the red half of Liverpool at Anfield. United took the lead early on through Carlos Tevez. But Liverpool forced their way back into the game with a Wes Brown own goal. It was all Liverpool in the second half and they were rewarded when Ryan Giggs erred and Dirk Kuyt crossed for Babel to score with only 13 minutes left. Sir Alex Ferguson's charges were reduced to 10 men late on, with Nemanja Vidic seeing red for two yellow cards.

Portsmouth 2 Middlesbrough 1

Portsmouth came from behind to beat Middlesbrough 2-1 at Fratton Park. The hosts had trailed at the break after Mido netted his fourth goal in five games after 24 minutes. But Jermain Defoe snatched in an equalizer just before the hour the England man beat the offside trap to bag a late winner.

Blackburn Rovers 0 Arsenal 4

At Ewood Park, Arsenal cantered to a 4-0 win courtesy of an Emmanuel Adebayor hat-trick. Robin van Persie put the Gunners ahead after just eight minutes and Adebayor added a second on the stroke of half-time. Adebayor claimed his second from the penalty spot after Stephen Warnock fouled Emmanuel Eboue and then wrapped up the scoring in the last minute.

Wigan Athletic 1 Sunderland 1

At the JJB, new signing Amr Zaki hit his fourth league goal as Wigan claimed a 1-1 draw against Sunderland. Titus Bramble headed into his own net to put Sunderland 1-0 ahead but the Latics came back after the break. Zaki hit the post before getting a deserved equalizer but the hosts had to hold on after Lee Cattermole was sent off.

Newcastle United 1 Hull City 2

At St James' Park, Marlon King scored a brace as Hull City dug the knife in managerless Newcastle. The Magpies, in their first game since Kevin Keegan's departure, dominated early on but Nicky Butt's foul on Peter Halmosi allowed King to score from the penalty spot on 34 minutes and the on-loan Wigan striker added a second after the break. Newcastle pulled one back when Xisco tapped in on his debut. But then with Newcastle's Danny Guthrie sent off late on for kicking at Craig Fagan, Hull City held on. Medical reports after the game indicate Fagan has a broken leg.

West Bromwich Albion 3 West Ham United 2

At The Hawthorns, West Ham were watched by new manager Gianfranco Zola - but they still suffered a 3-2 defeat. James Morrison opened the scoring after just three minutes but Mark Noble equalized after 29 minutes. Lucas Neill put the Hammers ahead 10 minutes before the break but West Brom leveled before the half with a Roman Bednar penalty after Rob Green fouled Leon Barnett. Chris Brunt claimed the winner seven minutes from time.

Fulham 2 Bolton Wanderers 1

At Craven Cottage, Fulham held on to see off Bolton 2-1 after goals from Zoltan Gera and Bobby Zamora. Gera opened the scoring after 15 minutes when Jlloyd Samuel's header fell to the Hungarian and Zamora doubled the advantage four minutes before the interval.

Manchester City 1 Chelsea 3

In Saturday's late game, the record £32.5million signing Robinho put City ahead with a 13th-minute free-kick. But Frank Lampard struck either side of the interval and Nicolas Anelka wrapped up a deserved win for Chelsea, who had John Terry sent off for a professional foul 13 minutes from time.

Stoke City 2 Everton 3

In Sunday's game, Yakubu had sidefooted the visitors ahead before Victor Anichebe's glanced header added a second. But two Rory Delap long throws were not dealt with by Everton and Stoke drew level through a Seyi Olofinjana volley and Phil Jagielka's headed own goal. Everton boss David Moyes was then sent to the stands after his side were denied a penalty before Tim Cahill headed in to claim the three points.

Tottenham Hotspur 1 Aston Villa 2

In Monday's game at White Hart Lane, Nigel Reo-Coker and Ashley Young grabbed the goals for Villa to consign Tottenham to their worst start in the Premier League and kept Spurs at the bottom of the table. Darren Bent's effort gave Spurs hope with four minutes left but Villa held on.
