Live Register Increases Throughout Ireland

The unadjusted Live Register increased to 247,384 in August from 238,240 in July, a monthly increase of 9,144 (up 3.8%). This increase was reflected in all regions, with the largest percentage increase in the Mid-East region (up 5.9%).

The smallest percentage increase was in the South-East region (up1.5%).

In the year to August 2008, the unadjusted Live Register increased by 73,178 (or 42.0%). All regions showed annual increases with the largest percentage increase in the Mid-East region (up 53.4%). The Dublin region had the smallest percentage increase (up 33.4%).

The number of men on the Live Register increased in all regions. The largest percentage increase was in the Mid-East region (up 7.7%), while the smallest percentage increase was in the South-East region (up2.6%).

The number of women on the Live Register increased in seven regions. The largest percentage increase was in the Mid-East region (up 3.2%) while the only percentage decrease was in the South-East region (where the number fell by 0.2%).

Amongst counties, the largest percentage increases were in Meath (up 8.6%) and Sligo (up 6.5%). The only percentage decrease was in Waterford (down 3.5%).
