Ronnie McGinn's Poetry Page

If you have a poem you'd like to see published in The Irish Examiner then send it to:

The Poetry Corner
The Irish Examiner USA
305 Madison Avenue, Suite 1462
New York
NY 10165

or, preferably, you can email it direct to
ronniemcginn@eircom.net.

If possible keep your poem to 20 lines. You may choose any subject you like, in any form you like as long as it's original. We look forward to hearing from you.

Recently Arizona's, Collette F. Walters's and her granddaughter Ashley visited Ireland for a graduation present and Ashley and her family travelled over 800 miles around Ireland, taking in the scenes, even in the rain! They had a wonderful trip before returning to the States.

They were staying with Tom Hennessy in Rathangan, Co. Kildare and while there picked up a copy of The Irish Examiner USA and were attracted to the Poetry Corner, as Collette's brother has written numerous beautiful poems.

While reading his book of poems, Ashley asked him if he would write a poem for her and that same night he sat down and composed and wrote poem to her.

To Ashley

Ashley you're a Yankee girl
A Yankee thru' and thru'
But don't forget your Irish blood
Because you are Irish too

When you return to your native land
Back to college you will go
Don't forget us here at home
The ones you got to kno

We want you to succeed In life
So do the best you can
Study hard & get results
There Is no magic wand

Remember us when you have time
As we struggle thru' the day
We too will say a prayer for you
To help you on your way

So now we'll say a fond farewell
As you leave our Irish home
May the God above watch over you
No matter where you roam
