Out & About

A few girls from Queens were a little bit late because of a fire on the tracks and some girl got sick on the train that was coming from Woodside. The rumor is that it was Aileen O'Brien from Ennis, County Clare who rendered CPR to the person was quickly turning blue. Good on you Aileen, you can always rely on the girls from the Banner County to come to the rescue.

The Saw Doctors brought down the house with their performance at Governor's Island on Saturday night. From what we heard it was well worth the trip on the ferry with an audience of over 2,500. The Murph Guide Cruise on Thursday last was a huge success. We are so glad for the organizer, Murph Guide's own Sean Murphy as he put in a lot of hard work. It is not easy to make it these things happen as it takes a lot of tie and of course is a big expense.

The Munster Rugby team, who did not play a full first team squad, played the U.S. Eagles on Saturday in Hartford, Connecticut and record a 46-22 win in front of a lot of fans that had traveled up from New York. O'Brien's Irish Pub had three busses full to capacity. Good job Cormack McCormick.

Manchester United had their first win on Monday against Portsmouth as seen at Nevada Smiths along with big support on the day. Who was in the middle of it all only Johno from The Galway Hooker cheering on the boys. The Galway Hooker has one of the biggest screens that you have ever seen in a restaurant in New York, so do call in to meet all the staff that are always very friendly.

For all you Yankee fans out there this is the week the Pinstripes will make or break it as they play the Boston Red Sox still hoping to make the play offs with a clean sweep.

The New York Mets play the Phillies and this should settle who will win the National League East.

Congratulations to Kenny Egan on his winning the Silver medal in the light-heavyweight boxing at the Beijing Olympics and to Paddy Barnes and Darren Sutherland on the bronze medals.

The boys got a great reception when they arrived at Dublin Airport when they were met by the Minster of Sport and Tourism, Martin Cullen along with the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Eibhlin Byrne, the Chinese Ambassador and the OPI president Pat Hickey.

The Flax Trust dinner will be held on Thursday, September 25th with Honorees Albert Reynolds former Taoiseach of Ireland and none other than our friend Michael Gibbons President of the Ireland-U.S. Council.
