Chelsea Stay Top After Win In Wigan

Arsenal Fall At Fulham; Stoke Beats Villa

Fulham 1 Arsenal 0

Fulham recorded a famous 1-0 victory over Arsenal in Saturday the winner from Brede Hangeland's first goal for the club. Hangeland turned in a corner from Jimmy Bullard in the 21st minute. Emmanuel Adebayor hit the right post with a header for Arsenal soon afterwards, but that was as close as the Gunners came to snatching a point.

Tottenham Hotspur 1 Sunderland 2

Spurs dominated first-half possession but lost due to debutant Djibril Cisse's 83rd-minute header. Sunderland started the second half like a different team and after a spell of pressure Kieran Richardson scored a brilliant long-range effort in the 55th minute. Jermaine Jenas equalized with a strike on the rebound but Cisse, on as a substitute, rose to head Daryl Murphy's cross home to secure the win.

Liverpool 2 Middlesbrough 1

Liverpool needed an injury-time winner from Steven Gerrard to beat Middlesbrough 2-1. The opener went to Boro as Mido took Liverpool by surprise with a left-footed long-range strike. But the home side leveled as Jamie Carragher's drive from the corner of the area deflected off Austrian defender Emanuel Pogatetz four minutes from time, with Gerrard drilling home the winner.

Newcastle United 1 Bolton Wanderers 0

Michael Owen scored on his return from injury to hand Newcastle a 1-0 win at home to Bolton. Kevin Nolan should have given his side the lead when Steven Taylor's handball led to a penalty. But the Bolton skipper's effort was saved by Shay Given, who dived low to his left. At the other end, Owen capitalized in the 71st minute, rising to head Geremi's diagonal ball home.

Stoke City 3 Aston Villa 2

Mamady Sidibe scored a last-gasp winner to beat Villa 3-2. Liam Lawrence's first-half penalty had been cancelled out by John Carew. Ricardo Fuller's solo effort had looked like giving Tony Pulis' side the win, only for Martin Laursen to spoil the party with an equalizer from a goalmouth scramble. However, Sidibe rose to head beyond Friedel deep into injury-time and secure the win.

Blackburn Rovers 1 Hull City 1

Hull striker Richard Garcia scored a brilliant headed equalizer to earn his side a 1-1 draw at Blackburn. Rovers dominated much of the first-half and Jason Roberts put them ahead seven minutes before the break. However, Australian Garcia leveled soon after when he found space at the far post to head beyond Paul Robinson.

West Bromwich Albion 1 Everton 2

Leon Osman and Ayegbeni Yakubu's second half strikes helped Everton to a 2-1 win at West Brom. Osman scored after good work by Mikel Arteta - just moments after youngster Jack Rodwell had a goal disallowed for a push. Ayegbeni Yakubu made it 2-0 with a header 11 minutes later. Roman Bednar pulled one back from the penalty spot with a minute remaining but it was not enough.

Wigan Athletic 0 Chelsea 1

On Sunday at the JJB, Deco's fourth minute free-kick gave the Blues a hard-fought 1-0 win over Wigan. The Portugese midfielder curled the ball past Mike Pollitt to hand the Blues three points.

Manchester City 3 West Ham United 0

In Sunday's other game, West Ham's Mark Noble was sent off by referee Howard Webb towards the end of the first half at Eastlands after picking up two yellow cards in the space of five minutes and Micah Richards was then stretchered off shortly after the break. City upped the pace in the second half and goals from Daniel Sturridge (65), and then two from Elano (70 and 76) secured the points for Mark Hughes' men.

Portsmouth 0 Manchester United 1

On Monday evening, United ended their Fratton Park jinx to grab their first Premier League victory of the season at the second attempt with a goal in the 33rd minute which left Portsmouth still pointless. Darren Fletcher claimed the goal after Patrice Evra's cross rebounded off Sol Campbell and then the Scot's shins before creeping beyond David James.
