727 Days Lost To Industrial Disputes In The Second Quarter

During the second quarter of 2008 there were 727 days lost to industrial disputes. This compares with 300 for the same period last year.

Four industrial disputes began during the second quarter of 2008, and one dispute carried over from the first quarter.

There were eight disputes in progress in the first six months of 2008, involving 263 workers and a total of 2,204 days lost.

The Manufacturing sector accounted for just over 58% of the total days lost in the first six months of 2008, while the Transport, storage and communication sector accounted for almost 22%.
