Live Register Up To 226,000

The seasonally adjusted Live Register total increased from 215,400 in June to 226,000 in July, an increase of 10,600.

In the year to July 2008, there was an unadjusted increase of 63,647 (up 36.5%).

This compares with an unadjusted increase of 54,448 (up 32.7%) in the year to June 2008.

The monthly increase in the seasonally adjusted series consisted of an increase of 6,700 men and 3,800 women.

The standardised unemployment rate in July was 5.9%. This compares with 4.8% in the first quarter of 2008, the latest seasonally adjusted unemployment rate from the Quarterly National Household Survey.

In July, the estimated number of casual and part-time workers on the Live Register was 11,289 men and 14,565 women.
