Depression can paralyze and drain us, making it a very real and dangerous illness. Depression is not easily described when there are so many forms that can ale us. In every aspect of life, depression may challenge our lives. So how can one deal with the overwhelming effects of betrayal, loneliness, and everyday aggravations in life, along with many other forms of depression? Depression eventually will distract us from our daily activities, leaving the allusion of being alone, even when there is a world of people around going about their own life's trials. Poetry has been ranked as a top form of therapy and is an avenue for the seemingly impervious emotions, eagerly wanting a way out to relieve us of the burdens we hold. Recently, a man walked into our office and handed me this poem. He offered his thanks to his parents, his extended family, his many friends, Apple Computers and The Simon Community for all the help and consideration they shown given him. He is now hoping to help others, you can reach him at: tsha54@yahoo.com

I wanted to be a normal person too

Oh! My friend won't you stay another while,
I know you're heart is aching just like mine.
Inflicted with this cruel twist of fate,
God has sent us for a reason to this dark place.
So friend please stay awhile, don't hesitate.

Me like you have been there too,
For a very long time I can tell you.
I found it hard to say, it's all so true.
I've been so hurt and bewildered
and there's no cure. If only you knew,
I just wanted to be normal too.

So friend it's not the end that's true.
Believe me, I was going to end it all, one day too.
The hand we were dealt was too cruel.
I have nothing now my friend if I haven't you.
So come on now, we'll see this through.
You must try and tell a friend or maybe family too.
It will all come together "amigo for you and me".
So stay a little longer friend please do.
A problem shared was my cure.
Explode that volcano, release the pressure,
Let it blow, and all your dreams, I promise you,
Will come true.
