Stone Street Gives Back

New York's oldest paved street will see the summer in with Stonefest 2008
On May 10th, 2008 the bars and restaurants of Stone Street invite all of New York to their second annual Street Fest, a day long event celebrating the street's 350 year anniversary. The event, hosted by the pubs and restaurants on Stone Street, will take place between noon and nine pm, and will benefit GOAL USA in building schools for communities in need in Africa. The event recognizes the opportunity given to the millions who have passed through Stone Street to begin a new life in America by giving back to those in need throughout the world.
Stone Street was the first paved street in New York City - recognition of its commercial significance to early settlers and immigrants. From the Dutch colony of Nieuw Amsterdam, through the various waves of immigration, to the transformation of downtown into the financial center it is today, Stone Street has seen it all. In 2008, the street retains its old world feel with low rise European style buildings, and has reinvented itself as a commercial and residential hub.

Education is the primary vehicle by which economically and socially marginalized children can lift themselves out of poverty. GOAL aims to build or upgrade current schools in order to give children in Africa the education that they deserve
Stone Street's restaurants and pubs have become famous for their annual Oyster Festivals which attract thousands of revelers from throughout the New York area and beyond. Street Fest will be comprised of Adrienne's Pizza Bar, Beckett's, Brouwer's of Stone Street, Burger Burger, Mad Dog & Beans Mexican Cantina, Stone Street Tavern, Ulysses' Folkhouse, and Water Stone Grill. The event will unify all restaurants on the street, while allowing event patrons to enjoy the unique individual atmospheres of each establishment. Highlights of the day include outdoor eating and drinking, live music into the evening, and much more.
The aim of the day is to raise funds for GOAL to build a school in Africa as part of its integrated education programs, providing a lifeline to children in desperately poor situations. 20% of the proceeds from all purchases on the day will go to GOAL USA.
GOAL has responded to every major natural and man-made disaster since its inception 31 years ago, spending over $795 million in 50 countries, helping ordinary people who find themselves in terrible situations through no fault of their own.
GOAL is proud to have done this at an exceptionally low administration cost which means that all funds raised go directly to those who need it most.
