Emile Heskey Dents Chelsea's Title Hopes

Reading 0 Fulham 2

At the Madejski, goals from Brian McBride and Erik Nevland gave Fulham's faint hopes of beating the drop a lift as they claimed a 2-0 win over fellow strugglers Reading. The former United States international broke the deadlock for Roy Hodgson's side with a close-range finish in the 24th minute after latching on to Simon Davies' cross. Davies was again the supplier in the second minute of injury-time after he picked out Nevland who swept the ball home from inside the box.

Sunderland 1 Manchester City 2

At the Stadium of Light, Darius Vassell scored three minutes from time to give City a 2-1 win over Sunderland. Elano scored from a 79th-minute penalty after Nyron Nosworthy had brought down Daniel Sturridge. Dean Whitehead equalized in the 82nd minute but Vassell latched on to a through-ball from Elano before finishing.

Tottenham Hotspur 1 Middlesbrough 1

At White Hart Lane Tottenham's, Jonathan Grounds' own goal in the 27th minute had given Spurs the lead after he turned Aaron Lennon's ball past Boro goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer. But Gareth Southgate's side equalized in the 69th minute when Stewart Downing's shot was deflected off Jermaine Jenas past Radek Cerny.

Birmingham City 1 Everton 1

Birmingham were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Everton. Joleon Lescott's header had give the Blues the lead in the 78th minute. But Mauro Zarate came off the bench to score from a free-kick past Tim Howard into the top-left of the net.

Derby County 0 Aston Villa 6

At Pride Park, Ashley Young opened the scoring for Villa - a high ball into the penalty area from a free-kick was missed by Roy Carroll, and drifted into the net. John Carew doubled Villa's advantage a minute later with a shot from the edge of the 18-yard box. Stilian Petrov bagged the third in the 36th minute with a shot from about 40 yards after a poor kick-out from Carroll found the Bulgaria international. Villa captain Gareth Barry was on hand to tap home a fourth in the 58th minute. Agbonlahor then scored with a shot from outside the penalty area into the bottom-left of the net in the 76th minute before Marlon Harewood rounded off the scoring five minutes from time.

Bolton Wanderers 1 West Ham United 0

With this win, Bolton boosted their hopes of avoiding relegation from the EPL. Kevin Davies scored the all-important goal at the Reebok two minutes after the interval to give Bolton three points. Matthew Taylor's corner from the right was met by Davies who scored from inside the six-yard box past West Ham goalkeeper Robert Green. Gary Megson's side are now two points from safety.

Portsmouth 0 Newcastle United 0

In Saturday's late kick-off at Fratton Park, Portsmouth drew 0-0 with Newcastle, preventing Kevin Keegan's side claiming a fourth consecutive victory.

Liverpool 3 Blackburn Rovers 1

In Sunday's early game, second-half goals from Steven Gerrard, Fernando Torres and Andriy Voronin meant that a late strike from Roque Santa Cruz was just a consolation for Rovers.

Manchester United 2 Arsenal 1

United came from behind to take the points and virtually end the title hopes of Arsene Wenger's side. Emmanuel Adebayor put the Gunners ahead early in the second half, but Cristiano Ronaldo leveled from the spot and a free-kick from Owen Hargreaves 18 minutes from time gave Sir Alex Ferguson's men the victory.

Chelsea Wigan Athletic

In Monday's game, Chelsea's title hopes were dashed when a injury-time volley from Wigan's Emile Heskey equalised the game, leaving the Blues five points behind United and Wigan Athletic six points clear of the relegation zone.
