Tommy Tiernan's "Something Mental" To Premiere on Comedy Central

Tommy Tiernan: one of the top stand-up comedians in the English-speaking world.

Having conquered the rest of the English-speaking world, Ireland's top comedian, Tommy Tiernan, is set to release his first U.S. special, "Something Mental," on CD and DVD on Tuesday, March 11th.

The special will also be premiered as an hour-long Comedy Central special just days later on Friday, March 14th.

Recorded at The Mercury Theater in Chicago, "Something Mental" is said to capture Tiernan's boundless energy, taking his audience on a journey through what the British press called, "the devilish wonderland of his mind."

Weaving contemplations and observations on relationships, religion, being Irish and his travels through the U.S., Tiernan's stories blend a playful absurdity with an intellectual depth that cuts with a philosophical edge.

The "Something Mental" CD features his hour-long performance with an additional bonus track and over 30 minutes of extras including "Walk in the Windy City," "Interview With Tommy" and "Meet The Badger: Outtakes."

Considered one of the best comedians in the English-speaking world, Tiernan has sold-out performances from London to New York to Melbourne and continues to break his own box office records in his home country of Ireland.

Winner of The Perrier Award at The Edinburgh Festival and the British Comedy Award for Best Stand-up, Tiernan's four previous DVDs have all debuted as number one sellers.

His most recent DVD release in Ireland, "OK, Baby," was released in November of 2007 selling over 100,000 copies in five weeks.

Staking a strong claim to be Ireland's top comedian, breaking all Irish box office records over and over again with sold-out shows across the country including a staggering current record of 150 dates in Dublin's one thousand-seat Vicar Street Theatre, Tiernan is often considered one of the top ten stand-up comedians in the English-speaking world.

From his beginnings in Galway's GPO and Dublin's Comedy Cellar to an early win of the "So You Think You're Funny" (UK Best Newcomer Award,) Tiernan's stage work quickly led to a 'Perrier Award' win in Edinburgh, a 'British Comedy Award' for 'Best Stand Up' and a 'Nokia Best Of The Fest Award' on his return to Edinburgh.

His commitment to live stand-up has led him on an extraordinary journey, including twice being accused of blasphemy in the Irish Senate.

One tour even finished with a 6-week, 650-mile walk across Ireland, as he performed shows in small regional theatres for an Irish TV show called "Supertramp".

In 2006, Tiernan focused his energy on performances in the U.S. and Canada. In the last 18 months he completed a blinding debut performance on "The Late Show with David Letterman," a 3-week run of his show, "Loose," at UCLA's MacGowan Little Theater, a 6-week run of his show, "Cracked," at The Village Theater in New York, a 6-week tour of Canada, two Gala performances at the 'Montreal International Comedy Festival: Just for Laughs' and numerous American club dates including performances in Philadelphia, Washington D.C., Omaha and Texas.

In 2007, Tiernan won The People Of The Year "Funniest Living Irish Person" award and co-wrote the ménage-a-Tiernan play "Help" which ran at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Tommy is currently running his new show, "Bovinity," at the Vicar Street Theatre in Dublin through March with all 40,000 tickets being sold out already.
