McCain's The Man

Senator John McCain is the best choice from the GOP (James Higgins)
At the time we go to press the results of the 'Super Tuesday' polling have not yet been announced, but if the latest polls are accurate, Senator John McCain could be close to securing the nomination for the Republican Party.
We here at the Irish Examiner USA think that this would be the best result for the Republicans, the forthcoming Presidential election and for Irish-Americans in general.
Senator McCain is a true conservative, despite the criticisms from many on the right, especially those involved in Talk Radio, receiving a lifetime of 82% from the American Conservative Union, while the liberal Americans for Democratic Action reports that he voted "their way" just 14% of the time between 2000 and 2006.
McCain's policies, from his strong support of the surge in Iraq and his advocacy of comprehensive immigration reform are both stands with which we agree.
On Iraq, he is likely to be the only candidate who expressly refuses to cut-and-run, allowing the Coalition military to finally secure victory in that part of the Middle East.
His stance on immigration reform acknowledges the problems that need fixing on the borders, while accepting the reality that those already in the country need to be dealt with in a humane and responsible way. His comprehensive immigration reform bill would have been a good starting point, and we hope that he will have another chance to get the legislation passed into law.
For these and other reasons, we wish the Senator success.
