Super Giants Fans Take Part In HeadBlade Shave-Off To Benefit The Saint Baldrick's Foundation

By John Mooney

Giants fans will go "under the clippers" to show solidarity to their team while raising money to benefit St. Baldrick's Foundation for children's cancer research on Thursday, January 31 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Foley's Pub & Restaurant, located at 18 West 33rd Street. The "HeadBlade Shave-Off" is free and open to spectators; however donations are readily accepted.

Those interested in contributing can register online at www.stbaldricks.org, where friends and family members can also pledge donation sponsorships in the head shaver's name; walk-ins are also welcomed to participate in the HeadBlade Shave-Off.

"We have one guy who is promising $5,000 in sponsorships," said Shaun Clancy, owner of Foley's New York. "The enthusiasm for this event has been incredible. It's a way fans can show support for the Giants, have fun, and help battle children's cancer all at the same time."

Foley's will reward all head shavers by granting them vouchers worth 10% of each participant's total sponsorship to be used at the establishment's "Super Beer Party" on Sunday, February 3, 2008, when the New York Giants take on the undefeated New England Patriots.

People who support the St. Baldrick's Foundation find that shaving their head in solidarity with the 160,000 children who are diagnosed with cancer each year is a small sacrifice in comparison to what the children endure, and want to raise money to help find a cure for children with cancer now and in the future.

About The St. Baldrick's Foundation

In 1999, Tim Kenny challenged friends, John Bender and Enda McDonnell to find a way to give back to society. The Irish-American reinsurance executives turned their industry's St. Patrick's Day party into a benefit for kids with cancer. What could they do to really turn the heads - and the wallets - of their colleagues? John suggested shaving Enda's head since kids typically lose their hair during cancer treatment. "People will gladly pay to see you bald, Enda!" Never one to miss an opportunity, Enda replied, "I will if you will," and St. Baldrick's was born.

The mission of the St. Baldrick's Foundation is to raise awareness and funds to cure kids' cancer by supporting cancer research and fellowships. It began as a challenge among friends and has grown into the world's largest fundraising event for childhood cancer. Since its inception in 2000, St. Baldrick's has raised more than $34 million for the cause, shaved over 46,000 heads in 18 countries and 46 U.S. states! Worldwide, 160,000 kids are diagnosed with cancer each year and despite tremendous progress, cancer remains the #1 disease killer of children in the U.S. and Canada. Visit www.stbaldricks.org

(In case you're wondering, St. Baldrick is merely a fictional character - a morphing of the word "bald" with St. Patrick's Day, when the event was born. There was no real Saint Baldrick.)

HeadBlade (HeadBlade.com), co-sponsor of the event at Foley's, is the pioneer of headcare and has a complete line of men's grooming products that are available in over 25,000 retailers including Walgreen's, CVS, Rite Aid, and Kmart. The original HeadBlade was named one of the "Ten Best Designs in 2000" by Time Magazine and is in the permanent collection at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Well-known "HeadBladers" include Alex "Militia" Castro of NBC's American Gladiators, Deal or No Deal host Howie Mandel, and American Idol star Chris Daughtry.
