Reds, Gunners & Blues Stay In Step At The Top

Liverpool's Woes Continue After Dropping Two Points To Villa At Anfield

The Red Devils remain top of the EPL after second-half strikes from Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo gave them a 2-0 victory over Reading at the Madejski. Utd had been frustrated for large periods of the game but eventually got the breakthrough in the 77th minute through Rooney. Ronaldo added a second in the third minute of injury time after United broke with a swift counter-attack and the Portuguese winger calmly slotted home.

Fulham 0 Arsenal 3


Arsenal remain behind United on goal difference after striker Emmanuel Adebayor struck twice to help his side a 3-0 victory over Fulham at Craven Cottage. The visitors took the lead in the 19th minute when Adebayor headed a crossed bal from Glichy ball past Antti Niemi. Adebayor bagged his 15th EPL goal of the season in the 38th minute when he headed home an Alexander Hleb cross. Tomas Rosicky scored Arsenal's third with a volleyed finish in the 81st minute.

Birmingham City 0 Chelsea 1


Chelsea's Claudio Pizarro headed home a Juliano Belletti corner in the 79th minute to give Avram Grant's side victory to heap more misery on Birmingham at St. Andrews.

Portsmouth 3 Derby County 1


Benjani Mwaruwari grabbed a hat-trick as Portsmouth ended their a six-match goal drought at Fratton Park with a 3-1 win over Derby. Defender Lewin Nyatanga had given the visitors the lead in the fourth minute with a close-range header but Harry Redknapp's side responded with three.

Tottenham Hotspur 2 Sunderland 0


Tottenham secureded a 2-0 win over Sunderland at White Hart Lane thanks to goals from Aaron Lennon and Robbie Keane. Spurs took the lead the second minute, with Lennon netting on his 100th appearance for the club. At the death, Keane latched on to a long ball from goalkeeper Radek Cerny before he unleashed an 18-yard strike in the second minute of added time.

Blackburn Rovers 1 Middlesbrough 1


Gareth Southgate's side opened the scoring at Ewood Park in the 13th minute from a set-piece. David Wheater raced in to get his head on the end of Stewart Downing's free-kick and Brad Friedel managed to get a hand to the ball but was unable to prevent it going into the net. But Mark Hughes' side equalized in the 75th minute through Matt Derbyshire who tapped home Jason Roberts' knockdown inside the six-yard box.

Newcastle United 0 Bolton Wanderers 0


In the late game on Saturday, Kevin Keegan's return to Newcastle for a second spell as manager ended with a 0-0 draw against Bolton on Tyneside. The best chance fell late on to Bolton sub Jlloyd Samuel but his effort was saved by Shay Given.

Wigan Athletic 1 Everton 2


On Sunday, Everton went above Liverpool into fourth spot in the EPL with a 2-1 win at Wigan. First-half goals from Andy Johnson and Joleon Lescott were enough to give David Moyes' side all three points at the JJB. Wigan pulled a goal back early in the second half.

Manchester City 1 West Ham United 1


In Sunday's other game, Sven-Goran Eriksson was left frustrated as City lost further ground in the race for a European berth after being held 1-1 at home by West Ham. Carlton Cole produced a delightful overhead kick to put the Hammers ahead after eight minutes before Darius Vassell stabbed in a controversial equalizer eight minutes later.

Liverpool 2 Aston Villa 2


An own goal from Liverpool's Fabio Aurelio put Villa ahead in the Monday game. The Reds took an early lead after Benayoun poked a rebound into the net, but an overhead kick by Marlon Harewood and Aurelio's unfortunate deflection of a Mellberg shot left Liverpool trailing. Peter Crouch scored in the 88th minute to steal a point for the home team.
