Tommy Symth Confirmed As 2008 Grand Marshal of The New York St. Patrick's Day Parade

The New York City St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee has announced that the Grand Marshal of the 247th Parade will be the County Louth born, and ESPN TV sport personality Tommy Smyth.

Tommy has been fixture of the Irish American community in New York for past forty-four years and according to the Parade Committee, "no one is more qualified and well liked than Tommy to receive the most prestigious honor the Irish American community can bestow on anyone in the United States. He is probably the most remarkable and recognized Irish American living in the United States and will bring great honor and prestige to the Parade in his role as the 2008 Grand Marshal."

When contacted, Tommy Smyth was delighted and deeply honored to have been chosen Grand Marshal and is looking forward to leading the World's Oldest, Largest and Greatest Parade.

Tommy brother and sisters Sheila, Brendan, Harry, Marian and Patsy who live in County Louth, Ireland were thrilled when informed of the selection and said that they are now looking forward to traveling to the U.S. to watch their brother lead the Irish American Community of New York City and the 250,000 marchers up Fifth Avenue in front of two million spectators on Monday March 17th, 2008.
