The writings of James Joyce were celebrated in the 103rd annual Bloomsday on Saturday.

Readings were performed by Senator David Norris, fashion designer Paul Costello, singer Linda Martin, veteran actor Des Keogh and author Peter Sheridan.

Bloomsday marks a complex day in the life of Ulysses character, Jewish man Leopold Bloom as he made his way around Dublin on June 16th, 1904.

Other guests who took part in events around Dublin included RTE personalities Joe Duffy and Anne Cassin and Dublin's Deputy Lord Mayor Aodhan O'Riordain.

Representatives from over 20 countries, including the U.S., Chinese and Japanese ambassadors, were also on hand to soak in the atmosphere.

Up to 300 guests gathered for the traditional 'Ulysses breakfast' of back bacon rashers, sausages and liver washed down with a glass of Guinness.
