Nonstop Flights To Ireland West Airport Knock On FlyGlobespan Mark First Transatlantic Service

Low-cost carrier FlyGlobespan launched the first-ever nonstop scheduled air service from Boston's Logan International Airport to Ireland West Airport Knock last week.

The landmark transatlantic flight marked the first time that Boston-area residents were able travel direct on scheduled flights to this award-winning airport, significantly easing the ability to experience the historic and picturesque Western region of Ireland.

FlyGlobespan, the award-winning low-cost carrier based in Scotland and one of the largest airlines in the UK, will operate two flights weekly from Logan, offering guests the option of Economy service and Economy - Premium Service Upgrade. The flights will be available through October 2007, and rates begin at $259 one way, exclusive of tax.

Prior to the availability of direct service into Ireland West Airport Knock, travelers flew direct into Dublin and Shannon airports, often missing the opportunity to explore the sites and towns of Western and Northwestern Ireland.

The launch of direct air service to Ireland West Airport Knock greatly increased the number of visitors able to experience these dramatic, historic and authentic regions. Visitors will now have greater accessibility to see renowned destinations and attractions such as Galway, the Hills of Donegal, Sligo Yeats Country, Lovely Leitrim, Connemara and Ashford Castle.

"This flight is a significant milestone in our Airport's 21-year history," said Joe Kennedy, chairman of Ireland West Airport Knock.

Members of the Flyglobespan crew welcomed Ruth Moran, Tourism Ireland; Stephen Emly Regional Manager for Globespan; Joe Kennedy, Chairman of Ireland West Airport Knock; and Phil Zagarri of Massport on board the first scheduled direct service from Boston's Logan Airport and Ireland West Airport Knock

"The cultural and historic ties between the U.S. and Ireland are very strong, particularly to the Western and Northwestern regions of our country, with 70 percent of our residents having friends or relatives in the U.S. and as many as one in every two in the region having had visitors from the U.S. And on the increase, as much as one fifth of all the business travelers to the Western region are from the U.S."

"The new Flyglobespan services will bring visitors into the heart of Ireland's West and Northwest where they will experience the great variety of cultural and outdoor activities amidst the warmest of welcomes from many new friends," said Joe Byrne, executive vice president United States and Canada for Tourism Ireland.

"Tourism Ireland congratulates Flyglobespan on the commencement of these new services and we look forward to helping our U.S. visitors to discover their Very Own Ireland," he concluded.

"We are thrilled to be a part of this ground-breaking offering and open the doors for new guests to experience FlyGlobespan and these regions of Ireland," said Tom Dalrymple, chairman and managing director of FlyGlobespan. "The interest and response for these flights has been very favorable, demonstrating the need for a better link between these destinations on either side of the Atlantic."

Flights from Logan International Airport will depart on Tuesdays and Saturdays at 8:45 p.m. Direct flights to Ireland West Airport Knock are also available from New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport and these flights depart on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 8 p.m.
