Lennon Says Goodbye While Looking For Chance At The Black Cats
Champions Celtic beat Aberdeen 2-1 on Saturday with a double from Dutch striker Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink in the final home encounter in the SPL. Vennegoor of Hesselink put Celtic in front after keeper Jamie Langfield could only parry Derek Riordan's shot towards him at the back post in the 33rd minute. Aberdeen's Jamie Smith had a penalty saved five minutes later by Artur Boruc but Darren Mackie leveled with a low shot from 18 yards. Celtic surged ahead again when Vennegoor of Hesselink caught out Langfield with a deft back-heeled shot just after the interval.
The offer of a player-coach role and one last hurrah in the EPL could lure Neil Lennon to Sunderland this summer. Lennon, 36 next month, played his last home game for Celtic at the weekend and admitted afterwards he would be interested in a move to Wearside. Crystal Palace are also believed to be interested in the midfielder and, with manager Peter Taylor under increasing pressure at Selhurst Park, could offer Lennon a more immediate path into management. But, while that attracts Lennon, his immediate priority is to continue playing and take his time preparing for a career afterwards. Ideally he would like a second spell in the Premier League, making Sunderland a more attractive prospect than the Eagles.
Inter Milan are planning a move for Czech Republic U19 captain Jan Hable. The 18 year-old FC Hradec midfielder has been watched extensively by Inter scouts this season and has drawn comparisons with a young Daniele De Rossi. Inter are now locked in talks with Hradec about a deal for Hable and hope to wrap up negotiations this week - despite rival interest from Celtic.
Espanyol star Ivan de la Pena has revealed he could have signed for Celtic earlier in his career. The midfield talisman had a trial stint at Parkhead four years ago but was rejected by then manager Martin O'Neill because the club could not afford him. De La Pena said: "At one point it looked certain I would sign for Celtic but it wasn't possible because of their finances. I had other offers from Europe and Qatar but I would have moved to Scotland."
John Kennedy reckons there is a ready-made replacement for Neil Lennon already at Parkhead - Artur Boruc. Lennon's on-field ability brought him a host of admirers during his six-and-a-half years in the green and white but some of the controversy which followed the 35-year-old around brought a number of critics, too. Boruc appears to be cut from similar cloth. The Polish keeper's terrific form between the sticks over the 21 months since his switch from Legia Warsaw have made him a firm favorite with the supporters.
"I'm really chuffed, over the moon in fact. This is a big chance and I intend to take it. It's about getting my head down and working hard for I know the competition will be fierce. But I have a lot to look forward to and I cannot wait to get started."

Reports say a secret meeting between The Scottish Executive, Glasgow City Council, The Commonwealth Games Committee and corporate institutions took place in London's Claridges Hotel to discuss the expansion of Celtic Park to 80,000. Work to be completed in time for the 2014 Commonwealth Games and to coincide with the opening of a new underground rail link. Planning permission will be a formality and new regulations will be put in place by the Scottish Executive to circumvent any legal challenge that may arise due to the fact that a section of the Main Stand is at this point listed. Celtic will reportedly not have to finance any of the expansion plans as funding will come from the public purse and corporate finance. It is understood that a leading Wall St investment broker will fund 60% of the whole project in exchange for the naming rights to Celtic Park, Celtic's current sponsors NIKE will also play a major role. It is estimated that Celtic will make over $300,000,000 on the Naming Rights over 10 years, while increasing the number of season tickets available from 53,000 to 69,000. At present it is believed to be Goldmann Sachs and Delta Airlines that are in competition for the naming rights. Dermot Desmond and Brian Quinn of Celtic are believed to have instigated proceedings as far back as October 2006.
Teenage striker Mark McAllister has completed his move to Celtic from Irish League club Dungannon Swifts. The 19-year-old traveled to Scotland at the weekend to sign a contract with the champions. "I'm really chuffed, over the moon in fact. This is a big chance and I intend to take it," said McAllister. McAllister, who scored 15 goals for the Swifts this season, was at Parkhead on Saturday to see Celtic claim a 2-1 victory over Abredeen. "It's about getting my head down and working hard for I know the competition will be fierce," McAllister said. "But I have a lot to look forward to and I cannot wait to get started."
Reports say former QPR centre half Danny Shittu may be on the move this summer. Big Dan has been linked with Portsmouth, West Ham, Birmingham and Celtic so far. Shittu will become a wanted man this summer in the wake of Watford's relegation. The 26-year-old centre-back, who joined the Hornets last summer in a £1.6million deal, is keen to stay in the top flight with Portsmouth and Birmingham checking his availability. A surprise bidder could be Celtic. Manager Gordon Strachan is looking to strengthen the Scottish champions and Shittu is set to be offered the opportunity to move north of the border.
