John Peel: Influence From Beyond The Grave
Those of you waiting for the next Pink Floyd reunion will be disappointed to hear that it may be another 20 years before the band take to the stage, given the hostility that remains between David Gilmour and Roger Waters. Despite the fact that the two men appeared to have resolved their differences for their acclaimed performance at 2005's Live 8 concert, it now appears that the schism is wider than ever according to Waters, who was enraged with some of the comments made by Gilmour after the gig. Speaking to the UK media last week, Waters claimed: 'He came up with some very strange comments after Live8. One was, 'I don't know what the big fuss is about - it would have been just the same if Roger had been there or not'. That illustrated to me that maybe he doesn't quite get how important that symbiosis between the four of us was during the golden years of that band. For 20 years it has been Dave's baby. He doesn't want to give up that position.' Talk about throwing the rattle from the pram, I honestly don't know which of the two is more pathetic...
On the subject of unlikely reunions, former Beatles drummer Pete Best told UK tabloid, The Daily Mail that he would welcome a phone call from Paul McCartney because he no longer holds any ill will towards the bassist. Best was famously fired from the Beatles in favor of Ringo Starr only months before they exploded out of the Liverpool scene but he claims that he is no longer angry about what could have been. The 65-year-old told the interviewer: 'We're not getting any younger. We know what we've done and we're not going to think any worse of each other if we had a chat now. God bless us all: it was all 40-odd years ago.'...
Speaking of the Beatles, it was revealed last week that some of the biggest names in modern music will get together to remake the band's seminal album: Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Oasis, The Killers, Fratellis and Kasier Chiefs are just some of the names that have been confirmed and all the bands will record the new versions of the songs on the original four-track equipment that the Beatles used when the album was made 30 years ago...
Scottish rockers The View might never be allowed into the US as a result of singer, Kyle Falconer's recent arrest and conviction for cocaine possession. Having already cancelled a scheduled US tour earlier this year, the band then announced that they had managed to secure visas and rescheduled the tour to begin in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on April 30. This week, however, spokespeople for theband issued a statement claiming that they have not been issued with visas, forcing them to once again cancel all of the upcoming dates. It appears that The View's US career could be dead in the water before they ever even had a chance to play a note on American soil...

Coldplay's Chris Martin revealed to the Sun newspaper last week that he had the last laugh over a boy that was responsible for bullying him relentlessly at a boarding school that he attended, after meeting his tormentor recently. Martin claims: 'I bumped into a guy who used to give me hell at school. He was a bully who always said I wouldn't make anything of myself. I had great pleasure in asking what he was up to now. He wasn't up to much. Then I turned around and said, 'This is my wife Gwyneth.' His face dropped and he looked really embarrassed. It was a proud moment. I'm not one to get my own back and look for revenge - but that was pretty sweet.'...
On the subject of bullies, it appears that Prince Harry might not be the only spoilt brat in the royal family, after an up-and-coming singer/songwriter accused his brother William of some downright boorish behavior at a recent gig. Dan Baker was performing at the Bliss Wine Bar in Bournemouth when he claims that the Prince came in with a group of drunken friends, who began causing a disturbance and detracting from his performance. According to Baker, one of the Prince's friends then approached the stage and said: 'Please stop playing these crap songs - the Prince wants dance music.' He went on: 'I was staggered when this drunken man scaled the stage and ran up to me mid-song. It was the rudest thing I've ever experienced. This gig was the pinnacle of my career. I've practiced for years in the hope of a change to perform like this.' Sounds like the actions of a prima donna alright but if the Bliss Wine Bar in Bournemouth represents the pinnacle of your career then I think you're in a bit of trouble...
John Peel's widow, Sheila Ravenscroft recently told an interviewer that bands continue to send their demos to her husband, despite the fact that he has been dead for two-and-a-half years. Mrs Ravenscroft claims that the bands just want to be part of his legendary record collection, which allegedly contains 26,000 vinyl albums, 40,000 singles and 40,000 CD albums, all housed in a specially built extension at the family home. Peel died of a heart attack while holidaying in Peru in October 2004.
