GAA Central Council Meeting
The Central Council of the GAA met in Dublin on Sunday and discussed a number of issues. Their decisions are summarised below.
Sliotars
Central Council reiterated its position that only sliotars supplied by the Committee in charge should be used in championship games. Counties will be asked to specify their preferred brand of licensed ball for the remaining games in the championship. These will be tested and stamped to signify they are official match balls and only these sliotars may be used during a game.
Competition Structures
It was noted that draft proposals from the Football Task Force and Hurling Development Committee with regard to Competition structures for the National leagues and All Ireland Championships are almost completed. Counties will be afforded an opportunity to review these proposals in the coming weeks.
Pitch Incursions
It was confirmed that there will be an increase in stewarding and Garda presence in Croke Park at upcoming games to address the issue of pitch incursions. It was also confirmed that a publicity campaign will be undertaken within the stadium to highlight the potential safety risks of such actions by supporters.
